Diamondbacks Place Ketel Marte On 10-Day Injured List
4 months agoThe Arizona Diamondbacks placed second baseman Ketel Marte (ankle) on the 10-day injured list on Monday with a sprained left ankle and recalled first baseman Pavin Smith from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. Marte has been battling a left-ankle injury for over a week now and will now get 10 days to rest up before the stretch run after aggravating his ankle yet again in Sunday's loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. The 30-year-old left-handed-hitting second baseman should be stashed in all fantasy formats while he's out, as the second-time All-Star is having a phenomenal season with a .298 average (130-for-436) with 30 homers, 81 RBI and six steals in 116 games played. Kevin Newman is at second base and is batting ninth on Monday against the Miami Marlins and right-hander Adam Oller. Newman and rookie Blaze Alexander figure to split time at the keystone in Arizona with Marte sidelined.
