DeVonta Smith Says He's Not A Body Builder
4 years agoAlabama wide receiver and Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith, who had 1,856 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns last season, has been criticized for weighing in at just 166 pounds at the medical checkup in Indianapolis earlier this month. But Smith doesn't think he's too light to be successful at the next level. "We play football. We're in a football business. We're not weightlifting. We're not bodybuilders," Smith said. "It's football. That's what we're here for. All the other stuff is irrelevant." What he lacks in weight, Smith makes up for in his precision route-running skills and soft hands. He believes his attention to detail will allow him to excel in the NFL. Smith, LSU's Ja'Marr Chase and Alabama's Jaylen Waddle are the top-three projected receivers to come off the board in Round 1 of the NFL draft this Thursday.
