Devin Williams Records Sixth Save in Shaky Appearance
Devin Williams secured his sixth save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Guardians on Tuesday. A double, single, and stolen base suddenly brought Cleveland within one with the tying run in scoring position, but Williams managed to get Bo Naylor to fly out to escape the inning. This was the reliever's first appearance since officially stepping back into the closer role with Luke Weaver going on the injured list. The 30-year-old was effective overall after being dismissed from his ninth-inning duties a few weeks ago, but whenever he finds himself in a save situation, it ends up being stressful. It may be a mental hurdle more than anything at this point, and he should have plenty of time to work through it with Weaver expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks.
