New York Mets catcher Devin Mesoraco got off to a slow start with his new team, but in his Queens debut on Tuesday against the Toronto Blue Jays he came up big. In a 12-2 victory, Mesoraco powered up by finishing 2-for-2 with a home run, four runs scored, two RBI and three walks. Mesoraco’s injury issues over the years have been well-documented, but if he can stay a bit healthier as a Met and get consistent playing time, he could be the best hitting catcher the team has had in years. With Kevin Plawecki not far off from his return from a broken hand, however, Mesoraco will likely be splitting time soon unless he continues to hit like this.--John Smith
