Davis Thompson Is Riding The Struggle Bus To Scottsdale
Through the early stages of 2025, the elite iron play that accompanied Davis Thompson's sophomore season last year has not been present. The 25-year-old has yet to gain strokes on approach through the first four starts at an average of -0.685. Every other metric is somewhat positive, but that still hasn't translated to a finish he should be satisfied with. He'll be making his third career start at the WM Phoenix Open with mixed results in the first two (T15 and a missed cut), but given the approach woes, he'll be difficult to trust without that part of his game coming back around. He is still a masterful driver of the golf ball, and his approach numbers between 50-125 yards (15'2") is ranked 26th on the PGA Tour. However, buyers of Thompson this week should be informed of the risks currently associated with him.
