Cubs Willing to Trade Owen Cassie for Starting Pitcher
Owen Caissie in a trade for a starting pitcher, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. The team's top target appears to be Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Mitch Keller, who has been connected to several clubs leading up to the July 31 trade deadline. Caissie, MLB Pipeline's 37th-ranked prospect, would be a steep price to pay. The 23-year-old has batted a terrific .278/.377/.563 with 20 home runs in 358 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season, though he has posted a high 29.3% strikeout rate. In Keller, the Cubs would be getting a reasonably priced mid-rotation starter who has pitched to a 3.53 ERA with a 1.16 WHIP, 97 strikeouts, and 30 walks across 125 innings in 2025. The 29-year-old is earning $15 million this season and is due a combined $54.5 million from 2026-28.
