Clayton Richard Hits Injured List

The Toronto Blue Jays placed starting pitcher Clayton Richard (lat) on the injured list on Sunday for the second time this year. The veteran left-hander left his start early on Saturday against the Yankees after suffering a left lat strain. There is no timetable for the 35-year-old's return, but lat strains can often keep pitchers out for a month or more, so don't expect him back anytime soon. Jacob Waguespack and Sean Reid-Foley are candidates to start next Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. Richard has posted a weak 5.96 ERA over 45 1/3 innings (10 starts) with 18 walks and 22 strikeouts this year and can continue to be left to the waiver wire. Edwin Jackson will rejoin the team's bullpen with Richard on the shelf, but he can be ignored everywhere as well.
