Chris Bassitt Receives Qualifying Offer From Mets
2 years agoThe New York Mets extended the $19.65 million qualifying offer to free-agent starting pitcher Chris Bassitt on Thursday, as expected. The Mets also gave the qualifying offer to right-hander Jacob deGrom and outfielder Brandon Nimmo but didn't give one to starting pitcher Taijuan Walker. It made sense to give Bassitt the $19 million qualifying offer after he declined his $19 million option for the 2023 season. The 33-year-old should be able to secure a nice multi-year deal on the open market after going 15-9 with a 3.42 ERA (3.66 FIP), a 1.15 WHIP, a career-high 167 strikeouts and 49 walks in 181 2/3 innings over his 30 starts in his only season in New York.
