Chargers Won't Ask Too Much Of Quentin Johnston
The Los Angeles Chargers took TCU wide receiver Quentin Johnston in the first round of the NFL draft on Thursday night, and he joins a receiver group in LA that includes Keenan Allen, Mike Williams and Joshua Palmer, all of whom will likely remain key components on offense. Johnston could be viewed as a long-term option. In the short term, the team won't ask Johnston to be a WR1 or likely even a second option in the passing attack. Initially, Johnston will likely only be more of a deep threat to stretch opposing defenses. He'll need to improve his polish on route-running and ball-finishing skills before he becomes a complete product, but it's hard not to like his big-play potential in an already potent offense. Like most rookies, Johnston will be more attractive in dynasty/keeper formats than redraft leagues in 2023.
