Cardinals Planning On Nolan Arenado's Return
2 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals president John Mozeliak met with third baseman Nolan Arenado this week in California and the two had a discussion about the direction of the club. Mozeliak said he's "optimistic" of a positive resolution with Arenado in the near future, and it sounds as though the team is planning on him returning in 2023. The 31-year-old has an opt-out clause in his contract, but it sounds like he won't exercise it to become a free agent this winter. He has five years and $144 million remaining on his current eight-year, $260 million deal he inked in 2019. Arenado is a National League MVP candidate in 2022 after hitting .293/.358/.533 with an .891 OPS, 30 home runs, 103 RBI, 73 runs scored and five stolen bases in 148 games in his second year in St. Louis.
