Cam Newton Out Five Days Due To COVID-19 Protocols
3 years agoNew England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton will be out for five days due to COVID-19 protocols after what the team called a "misunderstanding" about tests conducted away from the facility. Newton will be eligible to return to the practice field this Thursday, which will give rookie quarterback Mac Jones some valuable first-team repetitions this week. The 32-year-old signal-caller was 8-for-9 for 103 yards without a touchdown or interception in the second preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles last week and appears to be slightly ahead of Jones in the competition for the starting job. While Newton's absence this week likely won't affect his chances at winning the job, it will give Jones a chance to make things more interesting. Newton is currently coming off the board as the 25th QB in fantasy drafts behind Derek Carr.
