Brian Dozier Retiring After Nine Seasons
Brian Dozier announced his retirement on Thursday after nine years in the major leagues and 167 career home runs. Dozier spent his first seven seasons with Minnesota before he was traded to the Los Angeles Angels in 2018. He managed to hit 20 home runs and help the Washington Nationals to a World Series title in 2019. He signed with the Padres before the 2020 season but was released before latching on with the Mets. The 33-year-old was an eighth-round draft pick in 2009, making an All-Star appearance in 2015 and winning a Gold Glove in 2017. Dozier tied Rogers Hornsby for the second-highest home run total (42) by a second baseman in major league history in 2016. His 28 leadoff home runs remains a Twins record.
