Brett Baty On The Bench Against Southpaw
Brett Baty will return to the bench with a left-hander on the mound in Sunday's series finale against the visiting Chicago Cubs at Citi Field. Mark Vientos is starting at the hot corner and is hitting cleanup against Cubs southpaw Matthew Boyd. Baty will take a seat after starting each of the last three games and going 4-for-12 with three home runs and six RBI. The 25-year-old left-handed hitter has struggled at the plate in the big leagues since his debut back in 2022, but he appears to be coming around of late and hit two homers and drove in all five of the team's runs on Saturday. If Baty continues to swing a hot bat, Vientos could find himself on the bench more often despite a breakout campaign in 2024. Baty is still hitting only .227 (15-for-66) on the season with four home runs, 10 RBI, a steal and seven runs scored in 22 games played.
