Brandon Phillips Will Play Third Base in Minors

Earlier Wednesday, the Boston Red Sox signed former All-Star Brandon Phillips to a minor league deal. There was speculation that the signing was due to Dustin Pedroia's injury, but this is not the case. Phillips was not signed because of a dire injury prognosis. Phillips will be starting at third base for Triple-A Pawtucket once he is in playing shape. The move is simply for added organizational depth and gives the team a veteran bat to call on late in the season. With that being said, Phillips should not be on any fantasy radars unless he is called up to the Red Sox.
