Brandon Pfaadt Confirmed As Game 3 Starter
1 year agoArizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo announced that rookie right-hander Brandon Pfaadt will start Game 3 of the National League Championship Series on Thursday against the Philadelphia Phillies when the series shifts to Arizona. Zac Gallen lost Game 1 on Monday and Merrill Kelly will take the mound in Game 2 on Tuesday night. Pfaadt looked like a rookie in his first postseason start in Game 1 of the wild-card series against the Brewers, giving up three earned runs in 2 2/3 innings for a no-decision, but he bounced back by tossing 4 1/3 shutout frames with two strikeouts against the Dodgers in Game 3 of the NLDS. The 25-year-old had an inconsistent regular season with a 5.72 ERA and 1.41 WHIP, but he also struck out 94 batters in 96 innings. He did not face the Phillies at all in his 19 regular-season appearances.
