Blue Jays Agree With Robbie Ray
4 years agoThe Toronto Blue Jays agreed to a one-year, $8 million deal with free-agent starting pitcher Robbie Ray on Saturday, according to a source. Ray, a 29-year-old left-hander was in his sixth season with the Diamondbacks when he was traded to Toronto in 2020. He went 1-4 with an ugly 6.62 ERA in 11 total starts this season, including going 1-1 with a 4.79 ERA in his four starts with the Blue Jays. Ray is 49-51 with a 4.26 ERA in seven career seasons, six of which have been with Arizona. The southpaw has a fantastic 11.1 career strikeouts per nine innings, including an 11.8 mark in 51 2/3 innings in 2020, but he also walked 7.8 batters per nine and allowed a career-high 2.3 home runs per nine innings. Ray will give fantasy managers strikeouts, but he'll also inflate your ERA and WHIP, especially in hitter-friendly Toronto and the tough American League East.
