Alex Bowman did not have the qualifying run expected of him. The Hendrick Motorsports car looked slow throughout practice and then worse during qualifying. Well, Bowman was 28th in practice a full 0.6 seconds off the lead time. He wound up 29th in qualifying. Bristol can be a place to gain positions but also lose laps too. An average lap is around 15.5-15.6 seconds. Going back to concrete from dirt may skew historical results a bit. However, Bowman had an average start of ninth the past three years.
