Alek Manoah To Start Game 1 Against Mariners
2 years agoToronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah has been named the Game 1 starter for the wild-card series against the Seattle Mariners on Friday. The 24-year-old All-Star is fifth in the majors this year with 196 2/3 innings pitched in his second MLB season, and he's gone 16-7 with a 2.24 ERA (3.34 FIP), a 0.99 WHIP, 180 strikeouts and 51 walks in his 31 starts for Toronto. In his final six starts of the regular season, he allowed just four earned runs on 23 hits while walking 12 and fanning 33 batters in 41 innings. Manoah made just one start against the Mariners this year and had success, giving up two earned runs on three hits while walking four and striking out seven in 7 1/3 frames, although he was ultimately hit with a loss.
