Matt Cassel to Start Over Brandon Weeden Following Bye

When the Cowboys return from their bye week, Brandon Weeden will no longer, as the Cowboys have decided to turn things over to Matt Cassel. Cassel had been projected to be the starter for the Bills before the emergence of Tyrod Taylor.

It’s not so much that Weeden has been horrible; rather, the Cowboys’ chances at the playoffs are quickly fading, and the team needs a scapegoat. While the Cowboys have gone 0-3 under Weeden, not all of the blame can be laid at his feet, as the loss of Dez Bryant certainly hasn’t helped him. That said, 666 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions, and eight sacks over three games doesn’t make this change in any way shocking.

As for what to expect from Cassel, he has consistently underwhelmed since his last full season as a starter (2010 with the Kansas City Chiefs). Last year, Cassel appeared just three times, all as a starter for the Minnesota Vikings, completing 41 of 71 passes for 425 yards with three touchdowns and four interceptions. Those numbers are about what to expect from Cassel in Week 7.
