Will Jauan Jennings play in Week 2 for fantasy football? Is Jauan Jennings injured or hurt heading into Week 2 of 2025? Read the latest Jauan Jennings injury report.
The San Francisco 49ers dealt with a ton of injuries to many of their key players in the offseason. No different than any other season for SF, of course. But after just one game in 2025, the ailments are already starting to pile up.
The team's starting quarterback, Brock Purdy (shoulder/toe), is set to miss at least one week, and possibly more, due to shoulder and toe injuries. And starting tight end George Kittle (hamstring), one of the league's best players at his position, is now on injured reserve, set to miss at least four weeks with a hamstring problem.
And WR Jauan Jennings, one of the team's top-3 wideouts, is now dealing with a shoulder issue. Jennings was forced to exit the team's Week 1 competition after picking up this injury. So, let's break down an update on Jennings' injury and his potential fantasy football outlook for Week 2!

Jauan Jennings Fantasy Football Injury Update
Jennings is dealing with a shoulder ailment. There was early concern that it could be a long-term issue, but the most recent reports are that scans came back negative, indicating that he avoided major injury and could return to play soon.
Additional scans today on Jauan Jennings’ shoulder came back clean, and the 49ers wide receiver avoided any significant injury, per source. Jennings now will be considered day to day, and has a chance to play Sunday at New Orleans. pic.twitter.com/QAqvPVY3L9

It's possible that he suffered a shoulder sprain or some other kind of tweak, but a dislocation or fracture of some sort that could have sidelined him for weeks obviously isn't the case now. We don't know yet how much time he'll miss, if he misses any time at all.
Is Jauan Jennings Playing in Week 2?
The verbiage that he "has a chance" to play in Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints at least indicates that he's very unlikely to miss more than one week if he does miss time. We should know more about his injury as Sunday draws closer. He could be a game-time decision.
However, teams like the 49ers tend to be very secretive about their players' health issues. As was the case with the Christian McCaffrey debacle last year, the team often lies or tries to hide injuries that its players are dealing with in an attempt to gain a competitive advantage.
The signing of WR Kendrick Bourne, made on September 8, coincides perfectly with Jennings' shoulder ailment. It's possible that San Francisco is preparing for a Jennings absence by bolstering its depth at WR with the signing and knows that he could miss some time.

Jauan Jennings Fantasy Football Outlook for Week 2
If we assume he returns to play in Week 2 and is reasonably healthy, his outlook might not be too stellar, anyway. Jennings was targeted five times, playing 66 percent of the snaps in Week 1. He could have finished with seven or eight targets had he not been knocked out of the game.
Kittle played only 28 percent of the snaps in that game, and after he got hurt, you would have hoped that Jennings was targeted more. But it's pretty clear now that Ricky Pearsall is the team's top wide receiver. The top pass-catcher is actually McCaffrey.
CMC easily out-targeted all other 49ers pass-catchers with 10 targets in Week 1. He's first in the pecking order. But Jennings could at least be in line for more targets. The problem is that Purdy is injured and is a "long shot" to play in Week 2, and could be dealing with a multi-week injury.
With QB Mac Jones starting, Jennings already having a history of poor performances even in years where he plays well, and McCaffrey and Pearsall likely to be better target-earners than he is, it's hard to trust No. 15 in your starting lineups in fantasy football.
