Justin Herbert Injury Update For Fantasy Football
Herbert (shoulder) was throwing a football during the team's voluntary offseason workouts on Monday after coming off left-shoulder surgery this offseason. Herbert had surgery to fix a torn labrum in his left, non-throwing shoulder but hadn't resumed throwing a ball until Monday. The Chargers will take things slowly with the 25-year-old, but he should be fully ready to go by training camp at the end of July, especially since the surgery wasn't on his throwing shoulder.
Herbert dealt with a torn labrum and fractured rib cartilage for much of last season, so his ceiling could have been affected. Still, he finished second in the NFL in passing yards with 4,739 -- only behind Patrick Mahomes.
Justin Herbert 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook
Herbert threw just 25 passing touchdowns and didn't score on the ground last season, so he didn't reach his fantasy ceiling. Still, he posted a QB11 overall campaign, despite Keenan Allen and Mike Williams missing a combined 11 contests.
If Herbert, Allen, and Williams can stay healthy and rookie Quentin Johnston gets up to speed quickly, Herbert could be back to a top-five fantasy QB in 2023. Former Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore will run the offense loaded with talent, so it'll be interesting to see what changes he makes to the overall offensive attack.
Herbert has a low-end QB1 floor with overall QB1 upside moving forward.
