BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team PPR Leagues
ROSTERED: 16% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Giovani Bernard accumulated 6,564 yards from scrimmage and 33 RRTDs over eight seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, and just like fellow former Bengal and dual-threat RB Rex Burkhead, that means it was about time for Gio to join up with Tom Brady and eventually become a Super Bowl hero. The Brady-led Tampa Bay pass-attack features four players who already have at least 138 receiving yards and at least one TD, while the top Buccaneer rushers are: Leonard Fournette (92 yards), Ronald Jones II (52 yards), and...Tom Brady (20 yards). Bernard has yet to take a carry in 2021 and notched only 28 yards receiving off four catches (five targets) through the first two weeks; but this week against the Rams, the former Tar Heel was a prime target for the G.O.A.T., catching nine passes out of ten targets for 51 yards and a touchdown.
With 13 receptions, 15 targets, and 79 yards receiving, Gio ranks fourth, fourth, and fifth respectively on the Bucs' roster, and is one of five Buccaneers with a receiving TD. Fournette will likely continue to see the bulk of TB's carries with Jones sputtering and having almost no passing-game presence, and while Fournette is capable of catching balls, he isn't the type to put up voluminous reception/yards totals. We've watched Tom Brady take full advantage of players like this and elevate them to new heights for over two decades now, and we know too much about Brady-led teams for this quasi-RB depth chart crowd to cause concern. In deeper, PPR-centered formats, Giovani Bernard is a shot worth taking at RB for his time-tested receiving ability out of the backfield.
