BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 12% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Although he started the season with a reasonably good QB13 performance but struggled after that, Russell Wilson put up a top-3 outing last Sunday for his new team this season. Of course, you would expect that because you had to pony up a high draft-price to land Russ. Geno Smith, on the other hand, was draftable for peanuts or (as he still is) available in your league's WW after the draft. And so far, he's completely outperformed the former Seahawks QB1.
Geno had a dud of a game in Week 2 but other than that he's been an absolute steal. Smith put up 16+ FP in W1, then increased that mark to nearly 20 in Week 3, and he's now coming off his best game of the season this Sunday with a top-2 finish among quarterbacks thanks to scoring 31.7 FP against the Lions.
Smith did it to the tune of a 23-of-30 pass performance in which he got to rack up 320 yards (still five yards short of his season-high in Week 3) to go with two touchdowns against no interceptions (similar to his Week 1 outcome). Not happy enough with that, Geno boosted his fantasy tally with 49 rushing yards on seven carries, including scoring a rushing touchdown.
Smith has had to deal with a receiving group underperforming to start the season: it took DK Metcalf until Week 3 to score more than 8.6 PPR points in a single game, and Tyler Lockett didn't do so until Week 2. Even then, Smith has been able to keep up fantastic, top-15 QB numbers for three of the first four games of the year.
Pending MNF, Smith is currently the QB9 in total fantasy points through Week 4 (it would take both MNF quarterbacks to score at least 35 FP to knock him off the top-10). If you still don't think adding Smith for free through waivers is a solid move, then I don't even know.
I don't think Smith's availability will stay on the high 80%s for long given his exploits of late, let alone now that Metcalf/Lockett seem to have found their pace.
