FanDuel MLB DFS Lineup Picks (5/3/21): Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice

Mike Marteny highlights the top FanDuel MLB DFS lineup picks for 5/3/21, and a couple of sleepers to consider while building daily rosters.

We have a busy 10 game Monday. The Rockies are back in Coors and we have a few aces out there. How do we get an acceptable pitcher and some Coors bats? Do we even want Coors bats? There is a lot to wrap our heads around on this slate, including the massive price increase on a few pitchers. Are any of them still worth paying for? Let's check that out!

Rain is going to be a bit problem in Philly. The game should be able to start on time, but it will be a minor miracle if it finishes. Starting pitchers could be okay, but it will depend on when the rain hits. Chicago has some possibly heavy rain on the way. Again, this one should start on time, but could have problems finishing. We have a very windy one in Minneapolis, with a stiff 18 mph wind out to right field. I'll have some lefties from this game. Kansas City gets the exact opposite with a strong wind in from left field. Rain is possible in Denver, but the game should still play.

I'll be providing you with my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for the FanDuel main slate on 5/3/2021. Be sure to also check out all the MLB player news, including late scratches, and the projected and confirmed daily MLB lineups for each DFS slate. You can also check out today's DraftKings MLB DFS lineup picks, and read more DFS advice and lineup picks for other sports too. Let's get to it!

FanDuel DFS Pitchers

Cash Game/GPP Anchor Play:

Tyler Glasnow – TB at LAA ($10,800)

With Wrigley carrying a big rain risk, it's probably best to not get cute here. Glasnow carries a 1.67 ERA through six starts with an absurd 56 strikeouts in 37.2 innings pitched. The 39.2% K rate is a career best so far, and the xERA of 1.97 proves that Glasnow's strong pitching is not a fluke. Hitters are swinging and missing more than half of the curve ball offerings. All of the right metrics are up and the good ones, such as barrel percentage and exit velocity are down. The Angels just got locked down by Justus Sheffield yesterday. There's no reason Glasnow can't do the same.

Potential Alternate Play

Aaron Civale – CLE at KC ($9,500)

The alternatives to Glasnow are not particularly strong. I choose Civale because of his strong start to the season. His last three starts have come against the Twins, Yankees, and White Sox. He had 94 FanDuel points in those three combined. It gets easier against the Royals with a very stiff wind blowing in. The knock on Civale is that he doesn't strike out a lot of batters, but he does go deep into games most of the time. He doesn't have near the upside of Glasnow. If you want to get really creative, Aaron Sanchez has pitched well this year and in his two career starts at Coors Field.

FanDuel DFS Infielders

Brandon Belt – 1B, SF at COL ($3,100)

Belt is a career .319 hitter in 238 at-bats at Coors Field with 11 homers. That his third-most in any ballpark in the league. His numbers against German Marquez are even better. Belt is hitting .407 in 27 at-bats with a homer and six RBI off of Marquez. The .203 average leaves something to be desired, but Belt does have four homers on the year. He's a strong bet for another tonight.

Max Muncy – 1B/2B, LAD at CHC ($3,200)

Muncy has yet to really get it going this year, but the Cubs bullpen hasn't been great and they used seven guys in relief of Trevor Williams yesterday. If this game does indeed have rain trouble, the Dodgers could get into the bullpen early. Even if they don't Muncy is 3-6 with a homer off of Kyle Hendricks in his career. Hendricks, who was brilliant at home last year, has a 5.68 ERA at Wrigley in four 2021 starts. This is shaping up well for the Dodgers. The lefties in particular.

Jose Ramirez – 3B, CLE at KC ($4,100)

It was a bit of a slow start for Ramirez, but he has four homers in the last six games now. Tonight he gets rookie Daniel Lynch, who has not pitched above Class A ball. This is almost unfair. Right behind Lynch is a terrible Kansas City bullpen. Ramirez is on fire right now and he has nine homers in 51 career games at the K. Don't be shocked if he adds to that total.

Nico Hoerner – 2B/SS, CHC vs. LAD ($2,800)

Hoerner has at least 20 FanDuel points in three of the last four games. It's a tough task against Walker Buehler, but if Hoerner gets on, it's a good bet that he's going to be running. He's getting on base, driving in run, scoring, and stealing bases. Even if the power doesn't happen for a while, Hoerner is still scoring more and more consistently than anyone else on this team.

FanDuel DFS Outfielders

Byron Buxton – OF, MIN vs. TEX ($4,500)

Buxton gets saddled with a DraftKings-like price today. The .408 average with eight homers, 15 RBI, and three steals are a good reason for that. Buxton is healthy and finally living up to his potential. This game could be very offensive (in a good way). I want a lot of pieces of this one. A white-hot Buxton is a good place to start.

Austin Hays – OF, BAL at SEA ($3,100)

Hays takes his hot bat up the coast after 59.8 FanDuel points in the three games in Oakland. Seattle is likely going with a bullpen game today with Erik Swanson (maybe) picking up the bulk of the innings. The Seattle bullpen doesn't scare me and neither does the size of the ballpark. If he can rake in Oakland, a notorious pitcher's park, I have no issues running Hays up in Seattle.

Willie Calhoun – OF, TEX at MIN ($2,800)

Calhoun has hit his way up to leading off for Texas on the heels on an eight-game hitting streak during which he is hitting .361. There are the patented gale-force Midwest winds blowing out to right tonight. I want all the lefties I can find in this game. Calhoun is a no-brainer with the heater he's on. I also like Joey Gallo for this price.
