NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 1/13/24

We have finally made it! The 2023-2024 season is just about halfway done as the holiday season closes. There have been some surprises, both good and bad, and generational talent Connor Bedard has not disappointed. With teams still in flux and many unwritten stories yet to take fold, the race to the Stanley Cup is heating up!

Tonight we have a twelve-game slate and two teams playing on a back-to-back: Montreal and Vegas. The currently live top-3 highest implied team totals are: Dallas with 4.3, Tampa Bay with 4.2 and Edmonton with 4.1. I will do my best to guide you through this twelve-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 7:00 p.m. EDT.

DISCLOSURE: Make sure to monitor the NHL news feeds for the latest player status and injury news.

DraftKings and FanDuel Goalies - NHL DFS Picks

Alex Lyon - DK $7.4K || FD $7.4K

Opponent - Los Angeles Kings

Lyon is the second-best value goalie on the slate thanks to a new model being worked on. The same model that called Binnington the top value play on Tuesday night. The Kings are coming off a hard-fought 3-2 road loss to the Florida Panthers and it is their seventh-consecutive loss in all matches and their fourth-straight away loss. Lyon had a big performance on Tuesday, where he held the Oilers to a single goal until late in the third period, making 44 saves on 47 shots in an eventual overtime loss. It is very possible that Lyon could hit the 35 saves or more, Save Bonus, on DraftKings for a second straight game.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP):

  • Hellebuyck (DK $8.3K || FD $8.9K)
  • Ersson (DK $6.9K || FD $7.4K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Centers - NHL DFS Picks

Connor McDavid - DK $9.7K || FD $10.4K

Opponent - Montreal Canadiens

The Canadiens just lost to the worst team in the league, the San Jose Sharks. THE SAN JOSE SHARKS and it was at HOME! Not only did they lose to the Sharks, but they were dominated at HOME! If McDavid is under 20 percent owned in the majority of contests tonight, the majority of the field will be in utter shock.

Not only are the Canadiens in terrible form, but their top pairing is one of the worst defensive pairings in the league, conceding a combined 69 Scoring Chances Against Per 60 and 26 High Danger Chances Against Per 60. McDavid and company are the best line in the league right now and with three goals, six assists, 22 shots and one blocked shot in his last five games, this is one of the easiest ‘locks’ of the night.

Brayden Point - DK $6.7K || FD $8.2K

Opponent - Anaheim Ducks

Every time Brayden Point makes the article, he flounders on the ice, like a school kid trying to master his shot technique. However, the center’s last five games, he has three goals, one assist, 13 shots and six blocked shots. The most notable performance was his last, putting up four shots and five blocked shots in a 4-3 win against New Jersey.

This match at home against the Ducks may not be as exciting as the Devils meeting, however, Point and company will have an even better chance at having a big game here. The Ducks continue to be saved by stellar goaltending, sitting in the bottom ten in both Shots Against Per 60 and Scoring Chances Against Per 60 and the bottom five in High Danger Chances Against Per 60 and Goals Against Per 60.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Tavares (DK $7.3K || FD $8.7K)
  • Gourde (DK $3.2K || FD $4.3K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Wings - NHL DFS Picks

Mark Stone - DK $5.6K || FD $7.1K

Opponent - Calgary Flames

Maybe it will work this time? Yes, the Coyotes scored three goals at home against the poor away Calgary defense, but they also got completely dominated by the Flames. The Golden Knights are a much different hockey club and more consistent. Golden Knight’s winger, Mark Stone has three assists, 11 shots and one blocked shot in his last five games and is going up against the worst defense on the slate considering respective splits. Even though Stone’s shot volume is nowhere near his average, he is one of many viable options tonight, especially at wing.

Jordan Eberle - DK $3.7K || FD $4.3K

Opponent - Columbus Blue Jackets

Daniil Tarasov is starting tonight and word on the street is that he is now the bulk starter for the Blue Jackets with teammate Elvis Merzlikins potentially being moved out of Columbus. Tarasov is not nearly as bad as he once was, however, he is still not great either. In the last five starts for Tarasov, he has a 1-2-2 record with a 3.49 Goals Against Average and a 0.896 Save Percentage. The Kraken are in cracking form right now. Get it? The Kraken are cracking?

Anyhow, Eberle is not in form, although, this is a great matchup with extremely low ownership and a potential ceiling performance. In Eberle’s last five outings, he has two assists, 10 shots and one blocked shot. The Jackets in their last ten games – excluding splits – are in the bottom five in Shots Against, Scoring Chances Against and Goals Against – all Per 60.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Nugent-Hopkins (DK $6K || FD $7.4K)
  • Wahlstrom (DK $3K || FD $3.2K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Defensemen - NHL DFS Picks

Justin Schultz - DK $2.8K || FD $4.2K

Opponent - Columbus Blue Jackets

Similar to the above, Schultz is all too ‘cheap’ to pass up tonight. The defenseman quarterbacks the second power-play unit for the Kraken and in a matchup against the Blue Jackets, everything is on the table. Over his last five performances, he has two goals, 11 shots and four blocked shots. Sitting just above the minimum salary on DraftKings and with plenty of big names to pay up for, Schultz is the perfect flier.

Marcu Pettersson - DK $3.6K || FD $4.6K

Opponent - Carolina Hurricanes

After a poor showing in the 4-1 win at Philadelphia, Pettersson rebounded with a solid performance at home in the 4-3 overtime loss to Vancouver. In the loss, the defenseman had one goal, one assist, three shots and one blocked shot. Over his last five outings, he has one goal, one assist, 10 shots, and nine blocked shots. In a hard matchup against Metro rivals the Hurricanes, Pettersson and his shot-blocking ability will be relied on heavily. All he needs is three or more blocked shots and he will reach the Blocked Shots Bonus on DraftKings.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Martinez (DK $4.7K || FD $5.3K)
  • Fowler (DK $4.3K || FD $4.6K)
