ANALYSIS: Last weekend marked the last time we got to watch rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa play NFL football. The last time to date, that is. He was benched for Ryan Fitzpatrick supposedly because of an injury and not a bad performance, though that was put to doubt--logically. Fitz out-performed Tua in passing yards but he threw a pick, compared to Tua's TD on the game against Denver. This past Sunday, though, Fitz took on starting duties and completed a reasonably good game against a putrid Jets team.
Fitz came back to start a game for the first time since Week 6. He completed 61.5 percent of his passes (24 of 39) throwing for two touchdowns and avoiding interceptions. He also added 10 yards on three carries, though he couldn't get to score any points rushing. While Fitz is a rather volatile player that can have either a boom or bust performance on any given day, the truth is that his floor is rather high. Other than in W1, Fitz has finished every game with 18+ FP, and he's reached his peak at 27.6 (W5 against San Francisco).
Miami is at a crossroads. Do they want to keep developing Tua by giving him more reps during the home stretch, thus getting to know better what they have in him? Or do the Dolphins want to win more games and make an attempt at a postseason run? Depending on the priorities, one of Tue or Fitz will stay relevant in fantasy.
Assuming Fitz is the chosen one--the QB with the actual larger chances to keep Miami in the W column--he should be a must-have QB2 in 2QB leagues and a good streaming option in single-quarterback slightly deeper formats. Miami will face a couple of bottom-half defenses next, and their Championship Sunday game is against a 23rd-best Las Vegas defense in which could be a cupcake of a matchup for fantasy GMs fighting for the chip.
