Washington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom left in the second period of Wednesday's game versus the New York Islanders after taking a late hit from Anders Lee. Backstrom only played 7:21 in the contest. It is unclear how severe the injury is for the Swedish pivot, but if he has to miss any time, it will be a sizable loss for the Capitals. Backstrom has recorded 107 points in 126 playoff games throughout his career and helps spearhead the team's offense.
