New York Mets outfielder Jay Bruce is returning to the team on Tuesday for the start of the team’s series against the Toronto Blue Jays. Bruce missed the weekend series in Philadelphia as he was back home in Texas on paternity leave. In a corresponding move, the Mets sent first baseman Dominic Smith back down to Triple-A Las Vegas. Bruce was 0-for-7 in his last two games prior to going on leave, but it’s worth noting in the game before that he finished 2-for-3 with a home run. He’s largely struggled this season, likely due to a plantar fasciitis condition in his left foot, but hopefully the rest over the weekend did Bruce some good.--John Smith
