Studs and Duds in Fantasy Baseball from 6/14/16

STUDS

Josh Donaldson (TOR, 3B) - Donaldson posted three hits on his way to three runs scored, five runs driven in, and his 15th home run of the season. He is now in the midst of a modest seven game hit streak.

Jameson Taillon (PIT, SP) - If Taillon's first MLB start was the bee's knees, then his second go-around was the wasp's thorax, or whatever the appropriate upgrade would be in the flying, stinging insect world. The final line was an efficient one - 8 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K. It's safe to say that this performance should keep him in the bigs for a little longer.

Jung Ho Kang (PIT, 3B) - Kang smashed his ninth home run of the season on Tuesday and continues his hot play despite routinely missing starts as he continues to round back into shape. Kang is currently sporting a superb .294/.362/.627 slash line. The slugging percentage is second only to David Ortiz's .704 for best in the majors.

David Price (BOS, SP) - Price has done his best to get at least a little touched up in each start this season, and Tuesday was no different. The three runs in eight innings attest to that, but what they don't show is the current seven-game quality start streak. Oh, and he struck out 11. It's possible that the man can still pitch.

Corey Dickerson (TB, OF) - Corey Dickerson went 3-for-4 with three RBI on the night, but the big blow came in the second inning as he took a 2-2 offering from Taijuan Walker and launched it somewhere near the vicinity of Puerto Rico for his 12th home run of the season. The ball traveled an estimated 448 feet, touching down near a quaint coffee shop in the heart of Old San Juan, ruffling the feathers of locals and tourists alike.

Alex Colome (TB, RP) - Alex Colome. Destroyer of Worlds. Deliverer of Famine. Saver of games. Nineteen to be exact. The last run scored against this game-saving, cyborg demi-god came on May 1st.

Justin Upton (DET, OF) - 2-for-4, 2 R, 4 RBI, 1 BB. Shall we kick off the Justin Upton Hot Streak Watch? Eh, let's just hope he can get back to being the better Upton.

Chase Utley (LAD, 2B) - Utley nearly matched the Upton stat line with a 2-for-5, 4 RBI, 1 R day as he continues to turn back the clock from the leadoff position for the Dodgers.

Elvis Andrus (TEX, SS) - Andrus' 3-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI night still does not justify his outrageous 8-year, $120 million dollar contract but it's better than nothing.

Drew Pomeranz (COL, SP) - Pomeranz certainly wasn't going to pitch to the sub-2.00 ERA that we saw earlier in the season but Tuesday's performance moved the needle farther and faster than owners would have hoped. The five inning, five earned run performance jumped the ERA to 2.88 on the season, still a great number for a guy that was a free agent acquisition in nearly all leagues, but a bit of unease is certainly present.

DUDS

Tommy Joseph (PHI, C/1B) - Joseph's first game upon being named the starter over Ryan Howard was a smashing success, seeing him drive in four runs on two hits. Since the initial outburst, Joseph has posted three straight 0-for-4 games, including Tuesday's stinker.

Eugenio Suarez (CIN, 3B) - The Golden Sombrero will land you on the Dud list every time. And Suarez is certainly no stranger to the feat, accomplishing it for the third time in his last ten games.

Ian Kinsler (DET, 2B) - Yes, Ian. Even you and your prodigious cowhide-pummeling must follow the rules of the Golden Sombrero.

Adrian Gonzalez (LAD, 1B) - While not quite a member of the Golden Sombrero Club, 0-for-4 with 3 strikeouts will still make the list.

Trevor Story (COL, SS) - Wait, two hits, three runs batted in, and a homer lands you on the Dud list? What voodoo is this? Probably the same voodoo it will take to get Gerardo Parra on the field anytime soon after Story inexplicably and completely unnecessarily barreled into him and destroyed his ankle on what was a routine, lazy pop fly.

Carlos Correa (HOU, SS) - Owners hoping that the injury time missed would give Correa time to clear his head and get back on track will have to wait another day as an 0-for-4, 2 K performance shelved those hopes.
