Jameson Taillon (SP, PIT) - Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: Jameson Taillon is expected to be called up to make his MLB debut on Wednesday, June 8th as the Pirates host the Mets at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. Not only is the Mets offense fairly underwhelming, but they'll be coming off of a doubleheader on June 7th so they might be even worse than they normally are. That said they will have Noah Syndergaard pitching for them, so a win will likely be hard to come by for the young Pirate hurler.

Despite the tough matchup Taillon should be added in all leagues regardless of size and format. This doesn't mean that you should drop an established player that is more valuable, but that Taillon is now a commodity that is worth owning and should be added if he is replacing a lesser commodity. Before this season Taillon was a fairly highly regarded prospect even though he missed the entire 2014 and 2015 seasons because of Tommy John surgery and recovery. Now fully healed Jameson has been dealing at Triple-A as he's posted a terrific 2.04 ERA, 1.92 FIP, an 8.90 K/9 and a minuscule 0.88 BB/9 across ten starts and 61 and 2/3 innings pitched.

While we've recently seen a few highly regarded prospects flame out rather quickly at the MLB level (I'm looking at you Jose Berrios and Julio Urias) Taillon is a 24 year old SP that should be able to limit that damage by not hurting himself via the walk or HR allowed. With a fairly high upside in the strikeout department to go with a pristine pedigree and a pitcher friendly home park Jameson could be helping your fake baseball team in short order so add him now if you still can.
