FanDuel MLB Lineup Picks, Advice & Sleepers for 8/13

Today has the potential to be a high scoring affair across the board.  The few solid pitching options involve starters against divisional rivals who have seen each other a lot of the last few years.  This should allow a plethora of options from the hitters today.  On the con side, you’ll need to be accurate in selecting the correct starting pitcher for you to have any chance in winning your league and/or tournament.

As always, remember to check your players to make sure they are in their MLB starting lineups before lineups lock, and make sure you are doing your own research too with our very own BvP Tool for optimal performance! The most successful daily leaguers are grinders who are constantly tweaking their lineups as the day goes on and fantasy news gets released. Good luck today, RotoBallers!

Weather the Storm

Not a lot happening from the heavens today as the amazing summer weather continues.  There’s little to no chance of any game being disrupted so feel free to play anyone.  Left-handed power hitters may see some help from the wind in Cleveland, Baltimore and New York, while the left-field power alley is expecting a burst of wind in Detroit.

DFS Pitchers to Avoid for 8/13

  • Since early June, the Astros have passed several teams in terms of weighted run creation against RHPs.  The law of averages doesn’t bode well for Kyle Gibson.  In the other dugout, Brett Oberholtzer has yielded a .290 BAA at home.  It could be a regular home run derby in Houston.
  • Jake Peavy will probably record some serious strikeout numbers.  Unfortunately those strikeout points will be phased out by the runs he will inevitably give up.
  • Without a doubt the best name for starting pitchers today is Buck Farmer.  It’s as if he could fit right in with San Diego’s number one rated news team that futures equally amazing names such Ron Burgundy, Brian Fantana, Champ Kind and Brick Tamland.  Unfortunately for Buck, he was rushed to the big leagues and he faces a Pirates team that has been crushing RHPs.  It might be a good idea to stack Buccos today.
  • It doesn’t matter who he faces or where he pitches, Justin Masterson gets rocked.
  • Same goes for Tyler Matzek.
  • I really want to like Miles Mikolas just because of his mustache, but there’s nothing to like about his home splits- .400 BAA, 2.41 WHIP, .450 BABIP and 13.17 ERA.  The good news for him is if his professional baseball career does fail, he’s a shoe in to be a professional German World War One re-enactor.
  • The Anaheim Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will have a field day against A.J. Burnett.  Mark it.

The Main Course – DFS Lineup Picks for 8/13

I don’t want to tell you how to run your lineup, but it’s probably a good idea to check the lineup card and the daily BvP Stats (including game weather) before the first pitch to make sure your guy is starting.

Starting Pitcher DFS Lineup Picks

rotoballer-fantasy-basbeall-advice-chris-archerChris Archer, TB ($8,100): The Rangers have been in freefall mode for the last month and a half.  Archer has been fairly consistent over the same time span.

Ian Kennedy, SD ($7,600): I like Kennedy more and he just happens to be cheaper.  He’s been a stud at home and the Rockies have been at their weakest facing RHPs on the road.

Jered Weaver, LAA ($7,300): If you’re looking for more of a lock for a win and the four points, go with Weaver.  He may give up some runs but there’s a better chance that the Angels score more runs.

Catcher DFS Lineup Picks

Evan Gattis, ATL ($2,900): At some point Gattis and the Braves have to break out of their respective slumps.  If Gattis does play, I expect him to break out of his.  In 51 plate appearances against LHPs, Gattis has a 1.207 OPS and .521 wOBA.

A.J. Pierzynski, STL ($2,400): Pierzynski has recorded positive FanDuel points in each of his last six games.  Expect that trend to continue against Nathan Eovaldi as lefties own a .343 wOBA against the Miami hurler.

First Base DFS Lineup Picks

Adam LaRoche, WAS ($3,600): Suffice it to say that LaRoche enjoys hitting Mets’ pitching.

Tommy Medica, SD ($3,400): Medica hits left-handed pitching hard.  He’ll hit Matzek hard enough today that the Rockies starter will need to take his medicine after.

Second Base DFS Lineup Picks

Ben Zobrist, TB ($4,200): The Rays do-it-all second baseman is in a groove right now and he’s facing the most hittable lefty today.

Daniel Murphy, NYM ($3,300): The Murphy vs. Jordan Zimmermann line is just too good to pass up.

Third Base DFS Lineup Picks

Evan Longoria, TB ($3,300): Not quite sure if you have noticed a trend of Tampa right handed batters against mustachioed Mikolas yet.

Chris Johnson, ATL ($2,700): A .460 wOBA makes Johnson the top right handed third baseman against LHPs.

Shortstop DFS Lineup Picks

Didi Gregorious, ARI ($2,600): The D-backs guy at short will probably not get a lot of chances to score runs or drive in runs, but at least he can get on base and maybe swipe a bag.

Alcides Escobar, KC ($2,400): My two shortstop picks probably just turned you off this page.  Alcides Escobar has the ability to go Pablo Escobar against LHPs and make the competition “disappear.”

Outfielder DFS Lineup Picks

Gregory Polanco, PIT ($4,000): As explained above, the Pirates hit RHPs hard.  Polanco usually hits high in the order and will have plenty of opportunities to get on base, steal, score and drive in runs.

Josh Harrison, PIT ($3,900): Literally everything written about Polanco applies to Harrison.  On a more fun note, at the rate Harrison is defying base running rules he may even steal four bases on one play.

Alex Gordon, KC ($3,500): Gordon has been a rock for the Royals offense all year and his teammates have been finally helping him out.  Look for him to continue the magic, even against a tough Scott Kazmir.

Desmond Jennings, TB ($3,300): Have you been paying attention to the mustache-related theme?

Dustin Ackley, SEA ($3,100): In a small sample size, Ackley has R.A. Dickey’s number.  He’s also been pretty hot against RHPs recently.

Travis Snider, PIT ($2,900): Snider is on fire and usually hits right-handers hard.  Guess I’m all in on the Pirates outfield.  Considering their recent success, can you blame me?
