Fantasy Baseball Players To Monitor Closely
Luis Robert Jr., OF, New York Mets

Estimated Return: Early June
Carlos Mendoza says that Luis Robert Jr. hasn't started baseball activities

Luis Robert Jr. was one of my favorite targets in fantasy baseball this season. I thought that a change of scenery from the White Sox to the Mets would be huge for him. Robert started poorly, slashing .224/.327/.329 with two home runs in 98 plate appearances.
After the slow start, Robert landed on the IL with a lumbar spine disc herniation on April 30. The bad news is that after being sidelined for nearly two weeks, Robert's progression has been quite slow, as he still hasn't started any baseball activities.
That means that in a best-case scenario, we're likely looking at a June return for Robert. When you consider that it will likely take him time to get rolling, it's looking like another lost season for the power-speed outfielder.
In leagues where I have him, I'm still holding Robert, but I can't blame you if you choose to cut ties, especially if you don't have room on your roster.
Shane Bieber, SP, Toronto Blue Jays
Rostered: 45% Yahoo!
Estimated Return: Mid-June
Shane Bieber (elbow) will pitch an inning to live hitters on Tuesday. He’s been throwing two-inning bullpens up to this point.
He’ll likely face live hitters a couple times before he progresses
— Arden Zwelling (@ArdenZwelling) May 11, 2026
Shane Bieber was rock-solid once he returned from Tommy John surgery last year, putting up a 3.57 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP in 40.1 innings. However, the Blue Jays have played it slow with him this season, as he's remained sidelined. But with a slow start to the season, the Blue Jays could use Bieber sooner rather than later.
The latest update indicates that Bieber is ready to face live hitters, putting him on track to return in the next month or so. He'll first have to complete a lengthy rehab assignment, and if it all goes well from there, he'll be ready to be back in action.
With that said, there's a good chance that even when Bieber is back, it'll take time for him to get back to full form. If you're stashing him, I'd suggest continuing to wait it out, but just temper expectations when he returns.
With pitching being decimated by injuries across the league, Bieber is worth waiting for.
Addison Barger, 3B/OF, Toronto Blue Jays
Rostered: 25% Yahoo!
Estimated Return: Mid-June
Addison Barger has “nothing structural wrong” in his elbow, issue is in the joint and he’s getting a cortisone shot, said John Schneider. That will keep him down 3-4 days and “hopefully it’s a short stint” on the injured list.
— Shi Davidi (@ShiDavidi) May 11, 2026
Addison Barger had a breakout season in 2025, slashing .243/.301/.454 with 21 home runs in 504 plate appearances. He got off to a slow start to 2026 with a .045/.214/.091 slash with zero homers in 28 plate appearances before landing on the injured list.
After finally returning last weekend, Barger immediately went back on the IL with an elbow injury. While there's hope that this will be a short stint on the injured list for Barger, I'm skeptical.
You have to think that the Blue Jays will take a cautious approach with their 26-year-old outfielder, especially since it's an elbow issue. On top of that, it may take a while before Barger is swinging the bat well.
With that in mind, I have no issue dropping him right now. There's simply not enough upside with Barger to hold while he recovers, even if you have an IL spot.
Mick Abel, SP, Minnesota Twins
Rostered: 16% Yahoo!
Estimated Return: Late July
Mick Abel Receives Cortisone Injection After Feeling Triceps Soreness https://t.co/D61Pt4dQVC
— RotoBaller MLB (@RotoBallerMLB) May 7, 2026
Mick Abel looked like he was turning the corner in his last couple of starts, allowing zero earned runs in each outing, spanning 13 innings. This included a 0-walk, 10-strikeout game against the Red Sox.
However, Abel recently suffered a setback in his recovery after feeling some soreness in his triceps. The team gave him a cortisone shot, but this just feels like a bad situation. We're likely going to have to wait a while before Abel is ready to return.
There's definitely some upside with Abel, plus the pitching landscape is a disaster right now with so many injuries, but it's hard to justify holding onto him here. Any time you hear the word "setback" with a pitcher's recovery, you have to fear for the worst.
I'm not saying that he's going to be out for the season, but we'll have to wait at least a month.
Grayson Rodriguez, SP, Los Angeles Angels
Rostered: 14% Yahoo!
Estimated Return: Early June

— AngelsMiLB (@AngelsMiLB) May 10, 2026
Grayson Rodriguez is nearing a return to the Angels, ready to debut for his new team after coming over in the Taylor Ward trade. The talented righty showed his strikeout upside in a rehab start at Single-A, striking out 11 in 4.2 innings. However, he also showcased his volatility, allowing seven hits in that outing.
While a return his on the horizon, we have to monitor how he does in these rehab assignments. Given his strikeout upside, it makes sense to stash him, especially with so many pitcher injuries.
Expect Grayson to have a few more rehab assignments before rejoining the Angels next month.
