Relief pitchers/closers are by far the most volatile position to analyze in fantasy baseball. It constantly changes every year as MLB teams are quick to pull a struggling closer or deal their top reliever to a contender once they are out of the playoff picture. However, there are a few elite RP options, such as Mason Miller and Edwin Diaz, to pay up for, but some fantasy managers never want to pay for saves. Fantasy Baseball Closer and Reliever (RP) News
Jhoan Duran, Philadelphia Phillies
Across 70 innings split between the Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies in 2025, Phillies closer Jhoan Duran recorded a 7-6 record with a 2.06 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 80 strikeouts, and 32 saves. Despite making 26 fewer appearances with Philadelphia than Minnesota, Duran recorded the same number of saves (16) with both teams. Heading into 2026, the 28-year-old is locked in as the Phillies' closer and could be in line for his most productive MLB season from a saves perspective.
While Minnesota often deployed Duran in high-leverage spots outside of the ninth inning, Philadelphia used him as a traditional closer. Duran owns a career K-BB rate of 23.6% and also does a tremendous job of limiting the long ball, as he's allowed a HR/9 of just 0.67 across 254 1/3 career innings. He profiles as an elite closer option for fantasy managers heading into 2026.
Matt Svanson, St. Louis Cardinals
St. Louis Cardinals right-handed reliever Matt Svanson could be involved in a closing committee in St. Louis this year, making him an intriguing candidate to speculate on for saves in deeper fantasy formats going into the 2026 campaign. Manager Oliver Marmol is already on record saying that he won't have a fixed closer going into the season, so Svanson, Riley O'Brien, JoJo Romero, and Ryne Stanek could all be options for the ninth inning.
The 27-year-old Svanson was 4-0 in his major-league debut in 2025 with a 1.94 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, 68 strikeouts, and 20 walks in 60 1/3 innings pitched. He was deployed in a high-leverage spot in Wednesday's 4-1 Grapefruit League debut win over the Houston Astros, too, picking up his third spring win while throwing two shutout innings with a strikeout and no walks.
Svanson entered the day with a 1.50 ERA, six K's, and a walk in six spring innings. His strong performance in spring training could make him a favorite to lead St. Louis' bullpen in save chances.
Seranthony Dominguez, Chicago White Sox
Across 62 2/3 innings split between the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays in 2025, veteran relief pitcher Seranthony Dominguez recorded a 4-4 record with a 3.16 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 79 strikeouts, and two saves. Dominguez's performance was enough to earn him a two-year deal from the Chicago White Sox in free agency, where he is expected to be the team's primary closer.
The 30-year-old is far from a perfect pitcher, as he posted an elevated 13.8% walk rate in 2025 and allowed an inflated 1.84 HR/9 as recently as 2024. However, Dominguez struck out 30.3% of the batters he faced in 2025 and should have a long runway as Chicago's primary option in the ninth inning.
Dominguez also pitched well in the World Baseball Classic for the Dominican Republic this spring, allowing just three base runners and zero earned runs across four appearances. If he can keep his walk and home run rates in check, Dominguez could be an undervalued source of saves heading into 2026.
Mason Miller, San Diego Padres
San Diego Padres closer Mason Miller will be available to pitch on Tuesday night against Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic final, manager Mark DeRosa told Jorge Castillo of ESPN. Despite throwing 22 pitches on Sunday in his save against the Dominican Republic in the semifinals, the hard-throwing right-hander will be available out of the bullpen on Tuesday. If Miller gets into Tuesday's game, it will be his third time pitching in the last five days.
The 27-year-old former third-round pick in 2021 out of Gardner-Webb University is one of the most dominant closers in the game and will be the first reliever off the board in most fantasy formats. Miller has a ridiculous 13.8 K/9 and 39.5% strikeout rate in his three years in the big leagues in 160 innings pitched.
Only two of his 22 saves last year came after the Padres acquired him in a blockbuster trade for the A's, but Miller's fantasy stock is way up in 2026 now that he's SD's unquestioned ninth-inning arm.
Victor Vodnik, Colorado Rockies
Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Victor Vodnik finished 2025 with 10 saves in his 52 appearances last season and is expected to start the year as the team's primary closer. He earned eight of those saves over his last 17 games, stretching from Aug. 12 through the end of the year. During that run, he had a 1.06 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 2.37 FIP with 14 strikeouts in 17 innings.
Despite that promising finish, Vodnik has had a rough spring so far and has an ugly 27.00 ERA in his three games. He showed the potential to be a solid source of cheap saves, but he could be on a short leash if his struggles continue into the season.
The Rockies also may not give him a ton of save opportunities after losing 119 games last season. If you're desperate for saves late in your draft, he is a viable option, but he is a high-risk pick as the No. 89 relief pitcher in RotoBaller's rankings.
Raisel Iglesias, Atlanta Braves
Atlanta Braves right-handed reliever Raisel Iglesias should be considered a shaky low-end No. 1 fantasy closer going into the 2026 season after a notable bullpen addition for Atlanta this offseason and following an inconsistent 2025 campaign. Iglesias had a strong 85.3% save share for the Braves last year and racked up 29 saves in 67 1/3 innings pitched in his 11th year in the big leagues.
The 36-year-old veteran converted on 21 of his 22 save chances and had a stingy 1.34 ERA and 0.72 WHIP with 44 strikeouts and 10 walks in his last 40 1/3 innings, but he really struggled early on and held a 6.00 ERA into June.
With the addition of All-Star closer Robert Suarez in free agency, the Braves surely won't hesitate to give Suarez the ninth-inning role in 2026 if Iglesias falters again like he did in the first half of last season.
