ACC Fines Syracuse $25,000 for "Feigning of Injuries"
The Atlantic Coast Conference has issued a $25,000 fine to Syracuse for the "feigning of injuries" during Saturday's win over Clemson. "With 9:25 remaining in the fourth quarter, Syracuse violated NCAA Football Rule 3-3-6-b," the statement from the ACC said, "Which addresses the feigning of injuries by players, declaring it 'unethical and contrary to the spirit of the rules.'" The ACC stated the Orange demonstrated a clear attempt to gain an advantage by stopping the game to secure an injury timeout. "Faking" injuries has become a problem in college football, and it is expected to be addressed this season and moving forward with a loss of a timeout, or in this case, a monetary penalty. Syracuse improved to 3-1 with its road victory over Clemson, but the Orange are expected to be without quarterback Steve Angeli (Achilles) for the remainder of the season.
