Will Jaylen Wright Play in Week 1? Fantasy Football Outlook and Injury Update

Jaylen Wright - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

Will Jaylen Wright play in Week 1? Will Jaylen Wright play for the Dolphins in 2025? John breaks down the latest Jaylen Wright injury fantasy football outlook and injury update.

Miami Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright (undisclosed) had a disappointing rookie campaign last season. The Dolphins run game as a whole was nowhere near as productive as it was in 2023, likely due to the departure of their best two run-blocking offensive linemen.

Center Connor Williams, now retired, and guard Robert Hunt, now with the Carolina Panthers, were the cornerstones of the team's run-blocking unit two seasons ago. Last year, the team averaged just 4.0 yards per rush, a massive decline of over 20 percent from the 5.1 yards per rush they averaged in 2023.

While that 2023 season could have been an outlier, it's more indicative of changes in the overall offense. And they're not good. Wright didn't do much last season, and now that he's dealing with an injury, what's his status for the season and Week 1? And what's his fantasy football outlook shaping up to be? Let's dive in!

Will Wright Play This Season?

He's currently dealing with an injury that hasn't been disclosed, and is considered "week-to-week". That signifies that he'll likely play this season. Were he to have suffered something much more major, he'd likely have been placed on injured reserve, or we'd have heard something about it.

Wright doesn't have a majorly concerning injury history, so it seems unlikely that he re-aggravated a nagging aliment that's been bothering him for some time. There's not much information to go off of here, but the timeline given was weeks, not months, so we should see Wright play at some point.

Will Jaylen Wright Play In Week 1?

Keeping in mind that McDaniel said Wright would miss "multiple weeks", we probably shouldn't expect to see him in Week 1. While he recovers, the backfield will be led by third-year pro De'Von Achane, one of the fastest players in the league, and big rookie running back Ollie Gordon II.

Gordon got significant playing time in the preseason. If you're in a deep league, and are looking for a replacement for Wright, Gordon seems like a good bet. Though it would have to be an incredibly deep league for anyone to have Wright in their starting lineup for Week 1.

Jaylen Wright 2025 Fantasy Football Outlook

Wright struggled to find any space to run in his first season. While he was highly productive in college at Tennessee, that college does a good job at scheming their run game. Wright didn't play with good vision, and seemed to constantly crash into defensive linemen when he got opportunities.

He was thoroughly outplayed by Gordon in the preseason. You'd prefer for Wright to have shown clear improvement from one year to the next, but he looked remarkably ineffective even playing against backups on defense without serious game plans.

Wright's play was inexcusably bad for a player that was expected to step into the RB2 role. It appears that that may have already been usurped from him by the rookie Gordon. While Gordon's final season in college was disappointing, he has an intriguing athletic build. He's a massive back.

He's not as athletic as Wright, but there's more to playing the RB position than raw burst. If you can't hit the correct holes in the blocking to exploit, you will probably struggle to get playing time. Gordon also won the Doak Walker Award as college football's best running back in 2023.

There is almost zero upside for Wright that's readily apparent right now, so it's likely better to just avoid him in drafts and not bother putting him on any of your rosters. His current career arc doesn't project him being a starter anywhere for long, even if Achane gets hurt.
