Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin was highly competitive during Sunday's Coca-Cola 600 before he had issues and was relegated to a finish of 16th at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Hamlin began Sunday's race from the 20th position and slowly progressed through the field over the course of the race. In the first stage, Hamlin made it all the way up to the seventh position and scored a few stage points. Hamlin made it to the top five and even briefly held the lead for a lap during green flag pit stops during the second stage. He ended the stage in the second position behind William Byron. The third stage mostly had Hamlin compete with Byron for the lead, allowing Hamlin to lead laps until Byron took the lead back right at the end of the stage. The fourth and final stage of the race was much of the same, until Hamlin's green flag pit stop on lap 348, where his team did not get a second can of fuel into his car. Although Hamlin kept up with the pack on pace, he eventually ran out of fuel and pitted on lap 389. Ultimately, this sent Hamlin back to the 16th position after a strong performance at Charlotte, where he led 53 laps, the second-most of all drivers in this week's race. --Sean Engel - RotoBaller
