When Will Jordan Westburg, Spencer Arrighetti, Tommy Edman Return? Fantasy Baseball Injury Update

Jordan Westberg - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

When will Jordan Westburg, Spencer Arrighetti, and Tommy Edman return and play? Will Westburg, Arrighetti, and Edman be back again this season? Read the latest fantasy baseball injury updates and return date for Week 6 of the 2025 MLB season.

As we head toward the end of Week 6, it is becoming tougher to hold injured players. A bunch of superstar players are currently on the injured list, and that list should only grow in the coming weeks. Players like Blake Snell, Grayson Rodriguez, George Kirby, Ronald Acuna Jr., and Logan Gilbert are just some of the stars currently dealing with injuries.

In addition to those stars being out, there are plenty of solid fantasy players currently on the injured list. Three players fantasy managers could be missing are Baltimore Orioles third baseman Jordan Westburg, Houston Astros starting pitcher Spencer Arrighetti, and Los Angeles Dodgers utility specialist Tommy Edman

So, when could these three players return? Should fantasy managers be stashing Westburg, Arrighetti, and Edman in most leagues? Let's dive in and find out the answer to those questions.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Jordan Westburg Injury Update For Fantasy Baseball

Westburg started off the 2025 season with some solid numbers. He was hitting .303 with three home runs, six runs scored, and four RBI in his first eight games. However, the young third baseman has really struggled at the plate since then. The 26-year-old has just 10 hits over his last 59 at-bats (.169 batting average) to go with one home run, two RBI, and 17 strikeouts across 15 games.

Amid that cold stretch, Westburg also injured his hamstring. Although the Orioles originally said his hamstring issue was just a day-to-day thing, the team eventually placed him on the 10-day injured list on April 28 (retroactive to April 27). The good news, though, is that the 26-year-old won't miss a ton of time.

The Orioles wanted to give him a full week to rest his hamstring before getting him back on the field. Westburg is now working out with Triple-A Norfolk and should play in some rehab assignment games later this week. After that, the plan is for the third baseman to be activated from the 10-day IL.

As a result, fantasy managers should expect Westburg to be back sometime next week. He should only need a few games down in Triple-A, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him return to the team ahead of their series opener against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday. That makes him a solid IL stash candidate right now.

There's a strong chance that he is back early next week, and fantasy managers should expect better all-around numbers from him moving forward. His expected slugging (.462), barrel rate (12.9 percent), and chase rate (22.9 percent) all rank solid.

Westburg also has a .258 expected batting average in the early going, which is 41 points higher than his actual batting average (.217). So, it seems that he has gotten a little bit unlucky at the plate to begin the season.

Spencer Arrighetti Injury Update For Fantasy Baseball

Arrighetti was a popular breakout candidate heading into the 2025 season. He looked solid toward the end of last year and finished with a 2.90 ERA and 75 strikeouts over his final 11 games (10 starts) in 2024. However, the right-hander hasn't made any starts in recent weeks due to a broken thumb.

The 25-year-old was hit by a line drive during batting practice on April 7 at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. The ball directly hit Arrighetti's thumb, and X-rays revealed a fracture. This freak accident immediately landed the right-hander on the 15-day IL one day later on April 8 (retroactive to April 7).

This was obviously a heartbreaking injury for Arrighetti, but he should be back at some point in the first half. His broken thumb continues to heal well, and it wouldn't be shocking to see him back with the club sometime in June. While the young pitcher will have to re-gain strength in his thumb and build back up, his thumb should be fully healed within the next few weeks.

So, Arrighetti is someone fantasy managers should be thinking about holding in Week 6. There's a strong possibility that he returns sometime next month, and the right-hander has the potential to post solid numbers on the mound in 2025.

Although the 25-year-old had a 5.59 ERA in his two starts before the injury, Arrighetti really had one really good outing and one really bad outing to start the year. He tossed six innings of one-run ball with five strikeouts against the New York Mets on March 29 and then allowed five runs across 3 2/3 innings with three strikeouts against the Twins on April 5.

Given that Arrighetti was lights out to end the 2024 season, he is certainly worth keeping in one of your IL spots in 12-plus team leagues. He ended his rookie campaign with a 27.7 percent whiff rate, 27.1 percent strikeout rate, and a .229 batting average against. There's no doubt that he can build off those solid numbers in Year 2 once he returns from his thumb injury.

Tommy Edman Injury Update For Fantasy Baseball

Edman has played a key role for the Dodgers to begin the season. He plays multiple positions in the field and has hit the ball well in the early going. The switch-hitting utility specialist is currently hitting .252 with eight home runs, four doubles, one triple, 24 RBI, and two stolen bases in 30 games this season.

Unfortunately, Edman has not been able to play over the past week due to a right ankle injury. The 29-year-old first missed a few games on April 30 against the Miami Marlins and May 2 against the Atlanta Braves due to a sore ankle. While Dodgers manager Dave Roberts originally said the injury was just a "day-to-day thing," the team eventually placed him on the 10-day IL on May 3 (retroactive to April 30).

Edman's ankle wasn't progressing the way the team had hoped, hence why Los Angeles decided to place him on the 10-day IL soon after. Although the utility specialist won't be activated as soon as his 10 days are up, there is a chance he will be back with the team sometime next week. He likely won't need a rehab assignment, and his ankle continues to progress.

Edman has already resumed running on a treadmill and should run on the field very soon. Running on the field is really the last hurdle that he needs to clear before returning. If he suffers no setbacks in the coming days, a return on Tuesday against the Athletics seems in play. Therefore, he should be stashed in most fantasy leagues.

The 29-year-old is off to a fantastic start in 2025 and ranks top three on the team in home runs, RBI, slugging (.523), and OPS (.818). With a .399 xwOBA, .312 expected batting average, 41.7 percent launch angle sweet-spot rate, and a 34.1 percent squared-up rate, there's reason to believe that Edman will keep up his strong offensive numbers for most of the year.
