BALLER MOVE: Add in 2QB Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 7% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: I was very surprised by Davis Mills last season as he pretty much came out of nowhere to put up some very interesting numbers through his rookie campaign. Mills ended 2021 with 11 starts and averaging 12.1 FPPG over 13 total games for a final score of 157 FP over all of those matches. Not bad for a reserve-rookie thrust into starting midway through the year.
This season, as the bonafide Texans starter, Mills has been pretty much the same guy he was last year to eerily scary levels: his average through Week 9 sits exactly at that 12.1 FPPG mark once more. That is definitely not going to help you if you are managing in a shallow league but it could be helpful for those in deeper competitions either missing their drafted starter due to health issues or just navigating the bye weeks/looking for alternative 2QB options.
Mills has topped that 12-FP figure four times this season including last TNF. He completed a season-low 13 passes on 22 attempts for 154 yards and 2 touchdowns (against 2 INTs, though). Even though that performance and those numbers truly hurt to look at, you can see the upside in Mills if he's still able to reach 14 FP with such a mediocre outing.
The best games from Mills came against the Colts (W1, 15.5 FP), the Chargers (W4, 15.8 FP), and at the Raiders (W7, 19.1 FP) and all times Mills finished inside the top-17 QBs of the slate. In fact, that Week 7 outing served him to enter the top-7 realm. Mills has been a top-24 (QB2) quarterback in five of his eight games so you see the 2QB-format appeal.
Mills has passed for more than 246 yards only once this season and his two games without throwing a single interception also ended with the QB not throwing a touchdown. The numbers aren't gaudy but the top-24 production is steady, so target Mills as a safe secondary option in 2QB and Superflex formats.
