FanDuel PGA DFS Lineup Picks - 2022 3M Open Fantasy Golf Advice

Joe Nicely breaks down the FanDuel DFS lineup picks for the 2022 3M Open. Daily fantasy golf advice on under-owned golfers and who to avoid for your lineups.

In this article, we'll discuss some of the standout PGA DFS plays available on FanDuel for the 2022 3M Open. While it's impossible to hit on every player, we'll touch on some different plays across all price ranges, breaking the groups down into "High", "Mid", and "Low" price options that are worth considering.

2022 3M Open - PGA DFS Overview

The Course: TPC Twin Cities
Par 71 - 7,431 Yards, Greens: Bent, Designed By: Arnold Palmer

TPC Twin Cities is, like other TPC facilities, geared towards exciting, fan-friendly golf and while that's not a bad thing for fans, it does make things difficult from a DFS perspective, as basically anyone in the field that gets hot with the putter and the irons over four days can win this event.

As it is seemingly every week, Approach play is paramount at TPC Twin Cities, as both 3M winners, Matt Wolff & Michael Thompson, gained over seven strokes with their irons en route to their respective victories in Minnesota, while Cam Champ gained over three on Approach last year. These fairways are massively wide, which does make me bump up driving distance a notch this week, though length isn't totally necessary for success, it certainly is an advantage. While Champ won at 15-under par last year, I feel that we're likely to see a winning score of at least 20-under par this week.

High-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays

Tony Finau ($12,000)

With only a handful of players that can be considered "elite" in this week's 3M Open field, it's extremely tough to ignore Tony Finau. Not only does Finau have a world-class game, but he's also one of the few entrants that has actually teed it up in all three previous editions of the 3M. He's played well at TPC Twin Cities, narrowly missing a victory in 2020 (ultimately settling for a T3) and posting solid, if unspectacular results in his other two trips to Minnesota (T28-T23). The trouble with Finau is his lengthy record of coming up small in spots where he should dominate. It's no secret that he has just two career victories on the PGA Tour and that habit of coming up short of victories is the only nagging issue I have with him this week. I'll go ahead and lock him into single-entry and cash lineups, while keeping an eye on his ownership projections when it comes to GPP lineup construction.

Maverick McNealy ($11,300)

After battling through a mini-slump that resulted in missed cuts at the Charles Schwab and Travelers, Mav McNealy has regained his form in recent starts. The Stanford alum comes into the week off a T9 in last week's Barracuda Championship...his second top-10 finish in his last three starts. McNealy has some experience with this TPC Twin Cities layout and posted a T16 in his 3M Open debut last year. Players will need to make birdies in bunches this week and he's flashed the ability to do just that by grading out 13th in the field in Birdies or Better Gained over his last 12 measured rounds.

Cam Davis ($10,900)

The talented Aussie appeared primed for a breakout after picking up his first PGA Tour win last year in Detroit, but Davis' game sputtered in the aftermath of that victory. However, he's looked sharp as of late and heads to TPC Twin Cities on the heels of back-to-back top-eight finishes. Davis has thrived in each of his last two 3M starts, going T28-T12 in the event across the last two years. This can likely be attributed to his excellence on approach from long range (players will face a large number of approach shots from 175+ yards this week). He grades out inside the top-30 in this field in Proximity from 175-200 & 200+ yards over long-term measurements.

Mid-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays

Brendan Steele ($10,000)

The streaky veteran is capable of being a true tee-to-green beast when things are clicking, and Steele has been on a ball-striking tear in 2022. He's gained strokes T2G in eight consecutive starts dating back to February and ranks first in this 3M field in SG: Ball Striking over the last 24 rounds. He posted a T53 in his lone 3M appearance back in 2019, but we should take into consideration where his game was at the time. He's in a great place with his swing at the moment and I expect that to continue this week in Minnesota.

Adam Long ($9,900)

The former journeyman has looked like anything but recently, logging top-25 results in each of his last three starts. In addition to the sharp form, Long has performed brilliantly in each of his last two trips to the 3M, scoring a runner-up finish in 2020 and following with a T25 in last year's edition. The veteran has never been a statistical marvel, but he does the simple things really well by hitting lots of fairways (15th Good Drives Gained L24) and lots of greens (fourth in GIRs L24). Yes, the price tag makes us a little uneasy, but I'm willing to bet on his recent production and past success on this layout in GPP formats.

Adam Svensson ($9,700)

The Canadian KFT grad comes into this year's 3M firing on all cylinders. He's posted top-25 finishes in four consecutive starts, including a T6 in his most recent outing at the Barbasol, an event in which he gained over seven strokes on Approach. Svensson is a sharp ball striker that ranks sixth in this field in SG: Approach over his last 24 rounds. He's also a proven birdie maker that grades out first in the field in Birdies or Better Gained over the same number of measured rounds.

Low-Priced FanDuel DFS Players

Wyndham Clark ($9,600)

With former winners such as Matthew Wolff and Cameron Champ, it is reasonable to start considering the bombers available to us on this slate. Wyndham Clark fits the mold, as he lives and dies with two clubs in his bag...the driver and the putter. His reliance on those aspects, coupled with less-than-average iron play, makes him inconsistent, but some recent performances make it feel as though we're catching him on an upswing in this spot. Clark popped for a T7 in Canada and also put together respectable showing in both the Travelers (T35) and Scottish Open (T16). He's missed the cut in each of his last two 3M Open starts but did log a T5 here in 2019 and brings plenty of explosive power to the party, as he stands seventh in this field in Driving Distance.

Chris Gotterup ($9,600)

The reigning Haskins Award winner is wasting little time announcing his presence on the PGA Tour. Gotterup has already logged two top-10 finishes in just six Tour starts this year and shown superstar potential thanks to his prodigious power off the tee (first in the field in Driving Distance) and surprising touch on the greens (gained an average of one stroke putting per start). Though he has just 20 measured rounds statistically, Gotterup ranks 11th in this week's field in Birdies or Better Gained and this TPC Twin Cities layout has proven to be a terrific layout for young power players.
