Recent Fantasy Football Wide Receiver News
Travis Hunter, Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville Jaguars rookie two-way player Travis Hunter (upper body) is being listed as day-to-day, according to Mia O'Brien. Head coach Liam Coen said the goal is to have Hunter available to play receiver and defensive back for a joint practice on Thursday against the Miami Dolphins, so the team will make a "smart decision" with regard to his practice availability on Wednesday. Don't be surprised if the Jags keep the 22-year-old Heisman Trophy winner out until later this week.
Hunter did not play in the second preseason game on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints after he saw work with the first-team offense and second-team defense in the preseason opener. His injury isn't considered serious, so he should be ready for the Week 1 regular-season opener. Hunter playing both sides of the ball makes him a boom/bust WR3/flex target in upcoming fantasy drafts.
Calvin Ridley, Tennessee Titans
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley (undisclosed) is dealing with some undisclosed soreness and will sit out of training camp practice on Tuesday, according to Paul Kuharsky. Ridley should be back on the practice field at some point this week, but the Titans are just giving their star wideout a little rest for the final week before the regular season kicks off. Fantasy managers shouldn't be too worried. The 30-year-old caught 64 of his 120 targets for 1,017 yards and four touchdowns in 17 games (14 starts) in his first year in Tennessee last year.
It was Ridley's second straight 1,000-yard season. While he will surely be the top aerial target again for the Titans in 2025, fantasy managers will want to temper expectations since he'll be working with rookie quarterback Cameron Ward. Ridley is a volume-based WR3/flex for fantasy.
Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers
Carolina Panthers rookie wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan (hamstring) was "working off to the side with no pads" during the team's practice on Tuesday, according to Alex Zietlow of The Charlotte Observer. McMillan is reportedly dealing with a minor hamstring injury that could keep him out of the team's final preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday. Assuming McMillan is healthy for the start of the regular season, he has a good chance to emerge as the clear number one target in Carolina right away. He profiles as a low-end WR2 in fantasy with significant upside.
Jalen McMillan, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Jalen McMillan (back) is not practicing on Tuesday, according to Rick Stroud of The Tampa Bay Times. The 23-year-old has been held out of action since suffering a back injury during the preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers last weekend. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he could be in danger of missing the remainder of the preseason if this injury begins to linger.
Last season, McMillan enjoyed a productive second half in his rookie campaign. After catching just 13 passes throughout the first eight games, McMillan would go on to score at least one touchdown in each of his final five games of the regular season and average a stellar 19.8 PPR points per game over this stretch. However, with first-round rookie Emeka Egbuka gaining traction during camp, McMillan may take a step back during his sophomore season.
Terry McLaurin, Washington Commanders
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Washington Commanders Terry McLaurin may not find a team willing to give him the desired contract of $30-plus million per year. Instead, Russini's sources tell her that most teams view McLaurin as a $27-$28 million player. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor McLaurin's status as he continues a "hold-in" with his team. McLaurin has been seeking a contract extension with the Commanders, but the team has been unwilling to pay him the figure he is seeking.
Last season, the former Ohio State Buckeye enjoyed a career year with quarterback Jayden Daniels under center. McLaurin found the back of the end zone an impressive 13 times and tallied at least 1,000 yards for the fifth straight campaign. With McLaurin continuing to hold out, fantasy managers should expect Deebo Samuel Sr. to continue to serve as their top pass-catcher.
Marvin Harrison Jr., Arizona Cardinals
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. is approaching Year 2 differently from his rookie season, and his connection with quarterback Kyler Murray continues to strengthen. Harrison entered training camp physically transformed, packing on about 10 pounds of muscle, and he has worked closely with wide receivers coach Drew Terrell to add nuance to his route-running. Harrison and Murray connected several times in a recent joint practice against the Denver Broncos, showing enough for head coach Jonathan Gannon to rest his starters in the team's second preseason game.
Harrison's first year in Arizona was solid, if unspectacular. However, he left many drafters feeling burnt after seeing the highest ADP ever for a rookie wideout. He is currently being drafted as the WR15, but he could easily turn in a WR1 season if he can earn the same Year 2 trust from Murray that we saw from teammate Trey McBride in 2024.
