Recent Fantasy Football Kicker News

Tyler Loop, Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh officially named rookie Tyler Loop the team's starting kicker after he nailed five field goals in preseason action against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night. Loop has been the only kicker on the roster since the Ravens released John Hoyland earlier this month, but Harbaugh's statement indicates that Baltimore does not plan to bring in another veteran. A sixth-round pick out of Arizona, Loop made 83.8% of his field goals and 98.4% of his extra-point attempts in 50 career college games. He's made six out of his eight preseason field goal attempts so far.

Jake Moody, San Francisco 49ers

Kicker Jake Moody was responsible for nearly all of the 49ers' points in their 22-19 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday. Moody tacked on the extra point for Jeff Wilson Jr.'s touchdown in the second quarter and was 5-for-6 on field goal attempts. The lone miss was from 53 yards out, but the 25-year-old hit from 26, 30, 44, and 50 yards away before capping his day off with a 59-yarder as time expired to put San Francisco over the top. The performance was encouraging, though fantasy managers still don't need to go out of their way to select him in drafts.

Last season, Moody was 10-for-20 on kicks beyond 40 yards, and since joining the league in 2023, his 76.3% conversion rate ranks last among kickers with at least 30 field goal attempts in that time. Moody gets one last tune-up before the regular season when the 49ers host the Chargers on August 23.

Younghoe Koo, Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta Falcons placekicker Younghoe Koo was a perfect 2-for-2 on field goal attempts and 2-for-2 on extra points in Friday's 23-20 loss to the Titans. The 31-year-old hit from 39 and 42 yards out, but is coming off a rough 2024 in which he converted just 74 percent of his field goal attempts before missing the final three games of 2024 with a hip injury. Lenny Krieg handled kicking duties in the team's first preseason matchup and is presumably in the mix to compete for the starting job.

Krieg hit from 57 yards and missed from 53 in that first game while converting his lone extra point. Regardless of who wins the job, after Koo's struggles and the Falcons' murky offensive outlook, there are better options to choose from at kicker in 12-team fantasy leagues.

Tyler Bass, Buffalo Bills

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott said that kicker Tyler Bass (pelvis) is "moving in the right direction," and the team is trying to be smart with him so he doesn't suffer a setback. The goal is for Bass to kick in the third preseason game next week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Maddy Glab of BuffaloBills.com reports that Bass will be limited in Friday's training camp practice. The Bills will hold the 28-year-old out of the second preseason game on Sunday against the Chicago Bears as a precaution.

Barring a setback, it sounds like he'll be good to go for the Week 1 regular-season opener, where he'll be in play as a low-end starting fantasy kicker in 12-team leagues. Bass has made exactly 24 of his 29 field-goal attempts in each of the last two years in Buffalo. He's been steady, but just hasn't had enough chances to make him a high-end fantasy option at his position.

Ryan Fitzgerald, Carolina Panthers

Undrafted rookie Ryan Fitzgerald is making a strong case for the Carolina Panthers' starting kicker job. He accounted for the team's only points with an impressive 52-yard field goal in Saturday’s 20-3 preseason loss to the Houston Texans. Fitzgerald signed with the Panthers as an unrestricted free agent after the 2025 NFL Draft, but some analysts had him pegged as the top kicker in his class.

His college stats at Florida State back up the hype. He was nearly perfect in his final two seasons, hitting 90.5% of his field goals as a junior and a flawless 100% as a senior. Fitzgerald is currently battling four-year veteran Matthew Wright, who is listed first on the depth chart. Wright will have to hold off the rookie's momentum. If Fitzgerald continues to perform well this preseason, the Panthers will have a difficult decision.
