Introduction to Weekly Fantasy Football

By now we are assuming that if you are reading this article, you are already aware of the extremely exciting and popular daily/weekly fantasy sports element that has been taking over the industry by storm.  If you have never played in one of these leagues, we strongly suggest that you create a Fanduel account and play around FOR FREE for as long is takes you to get comfortable with the scoring systems and different strategies you can employ.  As we go along in our articles, we will get deeper and deeper into the nitty gritty of how we like to make our decisions, but for now lets start with the basics:

1) Never use a junky quarterback to try to penny-pinch.  Similarly to Daily League Fantasy Baseball where your starting pitcher usually costs the most, but should also score the most points for your team in a good matchup.  For that reason, it makes sense to budget highly for that position and not waiver on that stance under any circumstance.

2) Make sure your players are ready to go on Sunday just before game time.  This may mean analyzing the news feeds or player notes obsessively for the last 15-20 minutes before lineups lock.  There is nothing worse than getting a donut from someone because they were inactive for the week.

3) Don't play with money you don't have to lose!  Scared money can't possibly make money and we do not advocate playing for real money in these types of leagues unless you are planning on using it for entertainment purposes mostly.  Every site offers tons of free or cheap game options ranging from head to head to larger field tournaments.  We suggest playing one of each to at least get a feel to how they work.  Depending on the type of game you choose may have an impact on the strategic route you take when setting your lineup, so there is no replacement for actual gaming experience.
