Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 8:
Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Panthers
Carolina Panthers rookie wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan will be looking to get more involved in the flow of the passing game against the Buffalo Bills in Week 8. In terms of receptions and yardage, McMillan has not been productive over the last two weeks, totaling 62 yards on six catches. However, in Week 6, he did reward those who started him in fantasy football with two touchdown receptions.
McMillan needs to click with quarterback Andy Dalton if the Panthers hope to stay close with the Bills. If Buffalo races away with the lead, though, McMillan could pad his numbers in catch-up mode. The matchup is not daunting, as the Bills rank 15th in fantasy points per game to wide receivers over the past four weeks (30.3).
Continue to start McMillan as you normally would as a fantasy WR2/3. While the numbers have been disappointing recently, he is capable of showing his upside in any given week.
DeVonta Smith, WR, Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith went off for his best showing of the season last week, setting new highs in receptions (nine) and yards (183) while tacking on a touchdown. This Sunday, Smith faces off against the Giants without his counterpart in A.J. Brown. The Eagles don't often utilize other WRs, so Smith as the main focus should see a target number in the double digits.
His last time playing in New York was just two weeks ago, when he underwhelmed with four catches for 49 yards in a game where the Eagles' offense could not get it going. This time around, expect more involvement as he tries to string together his first strong set of back-to-back games against a defense allowing the third-most fantasy points to WRs this year. Smith is a promising WR2 in Week 8.
Malik Washington, WR, Dolphins
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Malik Washington had his best game of the season last week, setting new high marks for catches, targets, and receiving yards. However, he still only had five catches, for 30 yards on eight targets. Washington has at least four catches in each of his three games since the season-ending injury to Tyreek Hill (knee) but he has not been able to turn them into much production.
He has a tough matchup against the Falcons in Week 8, who have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points in the NFL to wide receivers. The Dolphins' passing game has looked pretty awful with Tua Tagovailoa all season, so this matchup seems an unlikely spot for it to get on track. Still, the chances are there for Washington because he's getting the catches, so there he does bring a little bit of upside.
In RotoBaller's Week 8 rankings, he is the WR56, meaning he should not be started in almost any formats this week.
Tez Johnson, WR, Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Tez Johnson has been a nice surprise for this offense over the last few weeks. This team is down multiple wideouts, but Johnson has stepped up and delivered lately. The rookie wideout saw nine targets during last week's loss to the Detroit Lions. He hauled in four of them for 58 yards and a touchdown.
The 23-year-old has scored in back-to-back games, so he'll look to extend that streak against the New Orleans Saints in Week 8. Emeka Egbuka (hamstring) is ready to go, so Johnson should fall into the No. 2 role in the passing game. There should be enough upside here to plug in Johnson as a WR3 for this weekend.
Kyle Monangai, RB, Bears
Chicago Bears rookie running back Kyle Monangai had his best game as a pro in Week 7 against New Orleans, handling 13 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown, and added two receptions (three targets) for 13 yards. The Bears have leaned into their run game more in their two games post games after their Week 5 bye, totaling 367 yards on 67 carries. And Monangai played his highest snap share of the season at 46.3% on Sunday against the Saints, but it's worth noting that starter D'Andre Swift was dealing with a groin injury coming into the game.
The seventh-round rookie is still a solid add as a strong handcuff option to Swift in an improving offense.
