Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 5:
Woody Marks, RB, Houston Texans
Houston Texans rookie running back Woody Marks is coming off the best game of his young career, and head coach DeMeco Ryans is excited to see how much more he can handle. Marks ran for 69 yards and a touchdown while adding 50 yards and another score through the air in the team's first win of the season on Sunday.
For the first time this year, Marks handled the majority of the team's rushing work, seeing 17 carries to Nick Chubb's 13. Having seemingly passed that test, a pleased Ryans suggested to reporters that more will be put on his young back's plate. Marks was a prolific pass-catcher in college, keeping his fantasy floor high even in less favorable matchups.
Now, with an increased workload on the horizon and no timeline for Joe Mixon's return, Marks becomes a high-priority waiver add wherever he is still unrostered.
Mason Taylor, TE, New York Jets
New York Jets tight end Mason Taylor again saw increased volume in his team's 27-21 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 4. The rookie set all new career-highs in Monday night's defeat, corralling 5-of-7 targets for 65 yards.
In addition to those marks being new personal bests, they were good enough for second on the team behind wide receiver Garrett Wilson. After the solid outing, it's clear that this passing attack will funnel through Taylor, Wilson, and running back Breece Hall, as they're lapping the field in target share.
Wilson commands most of quarterback Justin Fields' attention, so the LSU product will be subject to games with limited target quantities. However, he's an ascending asset with a TE1 finish under his belt. Taylor will have an excellent chance to continue his string of success in Week 5 against a Cowboys team that is friendly for fantasy.
Jacory Croskey-Merrit, RB, Washington Commanders
Washington Commanders rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt had a second straight underwhelming performance in the 34-27 Week 4 loss on the road to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Croskey-Merritt had seven carries, which tied Chris Rodriguez Jr., for 47 yards (6.7 yards per carry), and caught both of his targets for 10 additional yards in the passing game.
The good news is that the 24-year-old led Washington's backfield with nine touches and had a healthy 6.7 yards per rush. However, Rodriguez was even more efficient with his seven carries and led the team in rushing with 59 yards, and Jeremy McNichols and receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. also stole five carries.
JCM is going to remain involved in the Commanders' offense, but in this committee approach, he shouldn't be viewed as anything more than an RB3/flex play in fantasy. Since Austin Ekeler (Achilles) went down with a season-ending injury in Week 2, Croskey-Merritt has 15 carries for 73 yards and three catches for 15 yards.
