Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 2:
Garrett Wilson, WR, New York Jets
Fantasy managers can expect New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson to garner another huge workload in Week 2's meeting with the visiting Buffalo Bills. The Ohio State product displayed excellent chemistry with his quarterback, Justin Fields, during their Week 1 loss to the Steelers.
Wilson was the only Jets' pass-catcher to command more than four looks (nine) - pulling in a whopping 41% of Fields' targets. With fellow wideout Josh Reynolds (hamstring) deemed inactive, Fields could further lean on Wilson in a tough outing with the Bills.
Travis Etienne Jr., RB, Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen praised running back Travis Etienne Jr. after Etienne's big performance in Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers. Per ESPN's Michael DiRocco, Coen had this to say about Etienne Jr.: "It took some time early on in terms of understanding the demands and the standards.
Once (Etienne Jr.) really got on the same page, it's been doing this (upward motion)." The Jaguars traded running back Tank Bigsby to the Philadelphia Eagles following Week 1, clearing the way for Etienne Jr. and rookie Bhayshul Tuten to dominate touches in Jacksonville.
The veteran Travis Etienne Jr. profiles as a fantasy football RB2 in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Calvin Ridley, WR, Tennessee Titans
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley underwhelmed in Week 1 against cornerback Patrick Surtain II and the Denver Broncos defense, recording just four catches for 27 yards. On a positive note, Ridley led the Titans in targets (eight) and looks like the clear number one option in the passing game for Tennessee rookie quarterback Cameron Ward.
Still, it could be a struggle again for Ridley in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams' defense dominated the Houston Texans' passing game in Week 1, holding Houston to 188 yards passing and shutting down star Texans wide receiver Nico Collins (three catches for 25 yards).
Calvin Ridley should still see a heavy volume of targets on Sunday, but efficiency and end zone opportunities may be hard to come by. He profiles as a low-end fantasy WR3 in Week 2.
DJ Moore, WR, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears wide receiver D.J. Moore had an up-and-down season opener against the Minnesota Vikings, catching three of five targets for 68 yards while adding three carries for eight yards on the ground. Moore had chances for a bigger day, including a potential touchdown that Caleb Williams overthrew and a missed fourth-down conversion where Moore was open across the middle.
What's more concerning is that Moore trailed second-year receiver Rome Odunze in snap count, target share, and route participation, a trend worth monitoring in the future. Still, Week 2 brings a favorable matchup against the Detroit Lions, who allowed the most receiving yards to wideouts in 2024.
Moore has historically thrived against Detroit, posting at least six catches and 60 yards, along with scoring a touchdown in three of his last four meetings. Moore enters this NFC North showdown as a high-end WR3 with upside, especially if Williams can connect on the opportunities that slipped away in Week 1.
Marquise Brown, WR, Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise Brown could be in line for a significant target volume in the near future, given the current state of the team's wide receiver room. Top wideout Rashee Rice will miss the first six games of the season due to suspension, and WR2 Xavier Worthy (shoulder) is week-to-week after dislocating his shoulder in Kansas City's season opener.
Without Worthy and Rice on the field, Brown was targeted sixteen times in Week 1, recording 10 catches for 99 yards. While target volume like this may be tough to repeat, he will likely remain a focal point in Week 2.
Without question, the 28-year-old Marquise Brown should be added in all leagues and could be a must-start wide receiver in Week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles if Worthy is unable to play.
