Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football waiver wire outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider adding off waivers in Week 8:
Chris Godwin, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said on Wednesday that wide receiver Chris Godwin (leg) will not be back this Sunday to take on the division-rival New Orleans Saints in Week 8, according to FOX Sports' Greg Auman.
Godwin got a late start to the 2025 campaign while recovering from a season-ending dislocated ankle that he suffered in Week 7 of last year, and then suffered a fibula injury that will now keep him out for a third straight game. In addition to Godwin's injury, Tampa lost future Hall of Fame wideout Mike Evans (collarbone) for most of the rest of the season when he fractured his clavicle in Monday night's loss to the Lions.
Fantasy managers who have been stashing Godwin will be keeping their fingers crossed that he'll be able to return after next week's bye to take on the New England Patriots in Week 10. With Evans now potentially out the rest of the year, Godwin figures to be heavily involved in the passing attack next to rookie first-rounder Emeka Egbuka whenever he returns.
Brandon Aiyuk, WR, San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk (knee) has yet to have his practice window opened, as he continues to recover from the multi-ligament knee injury that ended his 2024 season prematurely.
While there's been speculation, he could miss all of 2025, general manager John Lynch recently noted that Aiyuk is "getting better and closer to a return." If he does make it back this season, Aiyuk will likely be eased in gradually, as most receivers returning from a major knee injury need time to regain form.
By the time he's ready, the 49ers' receiving corps should be back at full strength, which could limit his target share in 2025. Fantasy managers should keep Aiyuk stashed in IR spots and remain cautiously optimistic about a late-season return.
Christian Watson, WR, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (knee) said his "goal and my plan is to play this week" when the team takes on the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road on Sunday Night Football in Week 8, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.
Watson added that his talks with the team "indicate that's the direction it's headed." Watson, who hasn't played yet in 2025 after suffering a torn ACL in the Week 18 regular-season finale last year, was limited in practice all of last week before being held out of the Week 7 win over the Arizona Cardinals. All signs are pointing toward the 26-year-old being activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list on Saturday and playing for the first time on Sunday night, as long as he's able to upgrade to a full practice by Friday.
An explosive deep threat when fully healthy, Watson will make Green Bay's offense more dynamic, but he'll be a pretty risky boom/bust WR4/flex play in his season debut on a potentially limited snap count. UPDATE: Watson was limited again in practice on Wednesday.
Isaiah Davis, RB, New York Jets
New York Jets running back Isaiah Davis could quietly become a factor down the stretch of the 2025 season. So far, Davis has logged 10 carries for 44 yards and added nine receptions for 73 yards through the air. With Braelon Allen (knee) sidelined after undergoing surgery, Davis stepped in as the RB2, playing 39% of the snaps in his absence.
Now, with trade rumors swirling around Breece Hall, Davis' role could expand even further. The winless Jets (0-7) may look to move Hall, who's in the final year of his contract. If that happens, Davis could find himself in line for a much larger workload. Even if New York brings in another back, Davis' fantasy value is on the rise.
The Jets face the Cincinnati Bengals, who currently rank as the worst run defense in the NFL, making Week 8 a key opportunity to see how Davis performs with limited touches.
Jaylen Wright, RB, Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright has "practiced well recently" and has "been great in meetings," according to running backs coach Eric Studesville. Wright was active for the Week 7 blowout loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday after he was a healthy scratch the two weeks prior, but he still didn't see a carry while playing only nine offensive snaps.
The 22-year-old speedster got a late start to the season due to an injury suffered at the end of training camp, and he has so far been relegated to RB3 on the team's depth chart behind workhorse De'Von Achane and rookie Ollie Gordon II. The 1-6 Dolphins could be transitioning to more of a run-heavy approach going forward, with quarterback
Tua Tagovailoa struggling mightily as a passer without receiver Tyreek Hill (knee). The Dolphins may look to involve Gordon and Wright more alongside Achane in Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons. Still, Wright isn't rosterable in the vast majority of fantasy leagues.
