NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 5/8/22

Yesterday every match was lopsided one way or another. There was also a  plethora of goals too and the Penguins and Capitals gave surprising performances in their respective games. Tonight will be an interesting slate because every series lead is playing away. I will do my best in guiding you through this four-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 12:30 p.m. EST.

  • MIN @ STL: Series Lead Minnesota 2-1
  • TOR @ TB: Series Lead Toronto 2-1
  • EDM @ LA: Series Lead 2-1

NHL DFS Goalies

Mike Smith- DK $8.4K || FD $8.5K

Opponent - Los Angeles Kings

The Kings will hope to turn the tide back in their favor in the second game at Crypto.com Arena, however, their lack of scoring is not helping them at all. Queue Mike Smith and his stellar play. The netminder has only posted below a .900 save percentage once and it was the first game of the series, a 4-3 loss. Since he has posted incredible numbers with a shutout amongst the performances. If he and the Oilers can continue playing sound defense, they may very well blank the Kings in front of their own crowd.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP): Vasilevskiy (DK $8.3K || FD $8.1K), Raanta (DK $7.9K || FD $7.4K)

NHL DFS Centers

Vincent Trocheck-DK $3.9K || FD $4.9K

Opponent - Boston Bruins

The Bruins are anything but a good defensive team right now, conceding 12 goals in their first three games of the series. Trocheck has been a key cog in the offense for the Hurricanes and he has 2 goals, 2 assists and 7 shots through his three games. Ever since the lineup changes, the Hurricanes have been thriving and it is a matter of them maintaining that pace. Trocheck will remain a cost-efficient play along the way.

Connor McDavid- DK $8.7K || FD $10.1K

Opponent - Los Angeles Kings

McJesus is at it again and for whatever reason, the critics are hunting him down along with the rest of the Oilers. Through three games, McDavid has 1 goal, 5 assists and 8 shots. He has been in fine form in all areas and he is dominating the circle right now too. The Kings are decimated at the blueline and they are playing with a lot of youth who have not experienced big games or they have very little experience. This screams ceiling potential.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Matthews (DK $9.1K || FD $10.4K), Stamkos (DK $7.5K || FD $8.1K), Kopitar (DK $5.1K || FD $5.7K), Gaudreau (DK $3.2K || FD $4.9K), Staal (DK $2.9K || FD $4.1K)

NHL DFS Wings

Michael Bunting- DK $4.2K || FD $4.6K

Opponent - Tampa Bay Lightning

Bunting finds himself back on the top-line for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The winger was out for a short span of time and after his return, he has bagged 1 goal, 1 assist and 2 shots in the two games. Tampa Bay’s defense remains suspect at best and they have conceded 8 goals to the Maple Leafs thus far. For little salary, this play could do much more than just hit value.

Jesse Puljujarvi- DK $3.7K || FD $4.3K

Opponent - Los Angeles Kings

This is strictly a boom-or-bust play. Puljujarvi is the only player from the top-line of the Oilers that has not produced buckets of points so far. He does though at least have 1 goal, 1 assist and 4 shots in the three games of the series. The winger also provides vast amounts of value by leaving enough room to fit his linemate Connor McDavid or others as a stack. The Kings' defense is nothing to write home about as aforementioned and it provides a great opportunity for the youngster.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Kane (DK $6.4K || FD $6.9K), Tarasenko (DK $6.2K || FD $7.4K), Teravainen (DK $5.2K || FD $5.6K), Buchnevich (DK $5K || FD $6K), Kerfoot (DK $2.9K || FD $4K)

NHL DFS Defensemen

Colton Parayko- DK $3.9K || FD $4K

Opponent - Minnesota Wild

Parayko could become the biggest value play of the slate depending on how injuries shake out for the Blues tomorrow. The hosts are currently down two defensemen and it could end up being three. Parayko will find a role on the power-play quickly, as well as, maintain his current place on the top-pairing. Through the first three games, Parayko has 1 assist, 6 shots and 7 blocked shots.

Alexander Edler- DK $4K || FD $4K

Opponent - Edmonton Oilers

Edler is the perfect pairing of both safety and risk with his excellent peripherals. The risk factor comes from the unknown play of Edmonton’s goalies and defense. If Edler can manage to produce a point or two, he will instantly have a ceiling game and it is very possible when playing the Oilers. Through the first three games, he has 1 assist, 5 shots and 9 blocked shots.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Hedman (DK $7.3K || FD $7K), Nurse (DK $5.8K || FD $5.4K), Bouchard (DK $4.9K || FD $4.7K), Slavin (DK $4.7K || FD $5K), Spurgeon (DK $4.4K || FD $4.8K)
