One and Done Selections - The Arnold Palmer Invitational
In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Joe Idone, Matt Miller, Byron Lindeque, and our special guest will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!
Joe Nicely - Rory McIlroy

I don't suppose a ton of explanation is needed here, as McIlroy is one of the best golfers in the world at the moment and possesses an elite API track record. McIlroy has been downright dominant in the API, winning the prestigious event in 2018 and being squarely in the mix on multiple other occasions.
From a narrative perspective, this event sets up perfectly for McIlroy…not as much pressure as a major championship, but still a big-time event on a difficult golf course.

We play very few courses yearly where Scottie Scheffler's putting woes affect him less than they do here at Bay Hill. That is not to suggest that bleaching your eyes won't still be inside your pre-planned activity list on Sunday after the American inevitably loses 10 shots with his flat stick. However, more arduous scoring conditions and increased capacity for hitting a ton of greens in regulation will outweigh some putting returns when fewer putts must be made to find high-end success.
Next week's Players Championship is the only tournament to have a larger purse than the field gets this week. Now is not the time to leave bullets in the holster. Fire away.

Byron Lindeque - Viktor Hovland
Chris Kirk finished at -9 for the week while 2nd place was at -14. Through three rounds he had played three holes +7 with two doubles and a triple. The triple came from a greenside bunker that was skulled over the green into the water, sinking any chance of making some serious cash for us at a course he has played well at in the past.
This week, we are seeking redemption with Viktor Hovland who will also be seeking his personal redemption at a venue that he finished 2nd at in 2022. The reason Hovland fares so well here is because of his elite ability to execute approach shots out of thick rough with long irons, ranking first in good shot % and third in strokes gained from 150+ out the rough. He is also one of only four golfers who have top-20 accuracy and distance off the tee, which is ultra important around here with the thick rough.
He is also not necessarily the best around the greens, but at this venue, due to the thick nature of the rough he is chipping out of, he tends to find a little more success, gaining ARG in three of his five starts at Bay Hill. He also dresses like an extra from Emily In Paris, who just happens to be one of the most talented ball strikers on the planet. Very chic, if I do say so myself.
