RIVAL Over/Under Picks - Super Bowl LVII
Marquez Valdes-Scantling UNDER 12.98 RIVAL Fantasy Points
As Super Bowl LVII draws near, the Kansas City Chiefs receiving corps appears to be getting healthier. The squad left the AFC Championship game extremely banged up, with the trio of JuJu Smith-Schuster, Kadarius Toney, and Mecole Hardman all dealing with injuries to some degree.
While Hardman has already been ruled out for this Super Bowl clash with the Eagles, it looks as though Smith-Schuster and Toney will be ready to go, which means more mouths for Patrick Mahomes to feed and likely fewer opportunities for Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
The return of the injured Chiefs receivers already dings his stock enough to warrant concern, but MVS must also deal with the lockdown CB trio of Darius Slay, James Bradberry, and Avonte Maddox. The Eagles finished the season as the NFL's top-ranked unit in Pass Defense DVOA and allowed the fewest passing yards per game (171.0) in the NFL.
Dallas Goedert UNDER 12.66 RIVAL Fantasy Points
We're basically just trying to fade a touchdown here with Dallas Goedert. Despite being one of the league's most talented tight ends, Goedert has struggled to record production when he doesn't find the end zone. He's not topped 70 receiving yards once since Week 9 of the regular season and has crossed the 12.66 RIVAL points benchmark just once this season when not catching a TD.
He'll continue to fight for targets with Philly's explosive receiving duo of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith in this one. The matchup against Kansas City is a fairly neutral one, as the Chiefs have been a middling unit against the TE position this season, though they did contain opposing TEs to just 6.85 yards per target in 2022.
DeVonta Smith OVER 15.05 RIVAL Fantasy Points
While A.J. Brown gets most of the publicity, it would be a mistake to sleep on DeVonta Smith, a player that's proven quite capable of posting high-end production and that's led Philly in team target share (31.7%) since Week 16. His ceiling is what's so intriguing about Smith in this matchup against a young Chiefs secondary that routinely plays as many as four rookies in their defensive backfield.
KC's inexperience makes them prone to big plays and they relinquished the most passing TDs in the NFL this season (33). Smith is equipped to take advantage, as he finished the year ranked 19th in deep targets and logged five games of 100+ receiving yards.
