Yoshinobu Yamamoto Receiving Interest From Roughly Half Of MLB Teams
1 year agoFree agent pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto is reportedly receiving interest from roughly half of Major League Baseball clubs. The report is hardly a surprise considering Yamamoto is the biggest international free agent since his countryman Shohei Ohtani prior to the 2018 season. The 25-year-old right-hander is a two-time NPB MVP and is coming off a sparkling 1.21 ERA across 23 games with Orix in the 2023 season. Yamamoto's market is reportedly stretching from deep-pocketed teams such as the Dodgers, Mets, and Yankees but also some smaller-market clubs in the D-backs and Tigers. The upcoming winter meetings will be a good chance for the recently-posted right-hander to meet with interested clubs, if he's so inclined, as his market should intensify in the coming days. His contract is expected to blow past the $200 million mark given the widespread interest.
